Library

The KCW Library was established in 1958 from a meager collection of 225 books. It has developed into a modern and well stocked library. It is partially air-conditioned and surrounded by lush green playground and dotted with beautiful ornamental trees.
The mandate of the library is that no bonafide reader is allowed to be deprived of its rich resources.

The total area of the library is 5600 Sq. ft. –

  • Reading room area covers 1300 Sq. ft.
  • Stack area covers 4000 Sq. ft.
  • Store covers 300 Sq. ft.

The library has more than 60,000 books and subscribes to 20 journals. Besides it receives 13 newspapers and 30 magazines. Library and reading room are kept open to all students from 9 am to 4 pm on all working days.
It has an open access facility. The entire collection is automated using the SOUL Library Management Software and all metadata entries are stored there only. All books have been automated with barcode labels and charging & discharging of books is carried out through the use of laser scanner. For meritorious and economically backward students book bank facility is available. The library also provides books to students during the examination time with collection of deposit money.

LIBRARY RULES FOR STUDENTS

 

  • Library books will be issued to the students on the student Identity-cum-Library Card.
  • A penalty of Rs.150/-will be levied for the issue of duplicate card.
  • The loss of card should immediately be communicated to the Librarian so that the library staff may keep an eye on the issue of books on the lost Library Card.
  • The student whose library card has been lost will be held responsible for books issued on that card.
  • Students upto Graduation classes are entitled to borrow two books at a time. Masters and Honours students are allowed to get 4 books at a time from the library.
  • The books may be retained by borrower for a period of 14 days after which they must be returned or reissued, the later depending on the discretion of the Librarian.
  • Fine of Rs.1/- per book per day will be charged after the due date.
  • Leave from the college does not imply exemption from the return of the books. The books may be sent to the library by post under registered cover. If the day of return happens to be a holiday, the book must be returned on the next working day.
  • If the book is found torn, the borrower will be required to replace the book or pay double the price as damage. The borrower should examine the books and draw the attention of the issuing authority to the defects detected and issuing authorities will sign on the book as evidence.
  • The books if lost should be reported to the Librarian immediately. The book lost will have to be replaced with a new one with the approval of the Librarian within 14 days failing which she will be required to pay double the price.
  • Current library periodicals are to be read in the library premises only. Any person found taking the periodicals outside the library or tearing spoiling the pages of a periodical will be fined heavily.
  • The students are expected to read notice issued by the Librarian from time to time. No excuse will be entertained for ignorance of information notified earlier.
  • Perfect order and silence should be maintained in the library at all times.
  • Personal books, files, bags, raincoats, umbrellas etc. should be placed at property counter. Taking unissued books beyond issue counter is strictly prohibited.
  • The Library Security can be claimed within one year after leaving the college otherwise it will lapse.

 

 

LIBRARY RULES FOR STAFF MEMBERS

  • Books will be issued to the borrower on the library card which will be duly signed by the library members on issued and return duty every time a book is borrowed and returned.
  • The loss of library card should be immediately reported to the librarian so that library staff may keep an eye on the issue of books on the lost card. However the borrower whose library card has been lost will still be responsible for all the books issued on such card or on the duplicate card.
  • Duplicate card will be issued on written request against payment of Rs.10/-.

  • In case of loss of books either replacement of same edition or the latest is required. If no replacement is made double the cost of books. In case purchase was made before twenty years, than price of the book will be charged 4 times.
  • The period of loan will be one month.
  • Overdue charges will be taken for every book/document retained longer than the period of loan as per details given below.

 

      • General books/ documents Rs.1/- per day per book.
      • Overnight books/ documents periodicals magazines Rs.5/- per day per book/ periodical/ magazine.
  • Maximum 2 back issues of the periodicals/ magazines will be issued at a time for a period of one week. Latest issue of the periodicals/ magazines will be issued for overnight only. In case of loss of the periodical either replacement with the same issue or the price of the entire volume will be charged, however in respect of the magazine will have to be deposited in the library.
  • Leave from the college does not imply exemption from the return of the books. The books may be sent to the library by post under registered cover. If the day happens to be a holiday or number of holidays the book must be returned on the day on which college reopens.
  • Books/ documents and other material can be recalled anytime for urgent reference and consultation by the Librarian.
  • If the book is found defected, borrower will be required to replace the book or pay double the price as damage. The borrower should therefore examine the book and call attention of the issuing authority to the defects, detected. The issuing authority will sign on the book as evidence.
  • Reference books, documents placed under the reserved category will not be issued except on written order of the college Principal.
  • Perfect order and silence should be maintained in the library at all times.
  • Staff members posted at check/ property counter can check any person on entry and exit of the library. Get your things checked while leaving the library by the staff on duty at property counter.
  • Personal books, files, bags, raincoats, umbrellas etc. should be placed at property counters. Taking unissued books beyond the issue counter is strictly prohibited.
