  • Deptment of Fine Arts procured numerous prizes at various platforms. At Devbhoomi International Painting contest organized by Charu Castle Foundation, Shimla, Krishna earned I prize in nature category, Sandeep bagged II prize in portrait making & Dharni won III prize in Landscape. Vanita & Navdeep picked III prizes in portrait making. At the inter-college cultural festival Expression 2014, Krishna collected I prize in mask painting and Navdeep gained II prize in “Best out of Waste Category”. Jasmeet, Manpreet & Dharni pocketed III prizes in File Decoration, Pot Decoration & Card making Decoration category respectively. At another inter-college contest organized at Guru Nanak Girls College, Ludhiana, Archita Jain obtained I prize in Rangoli & Vanita won III prize in landscape contest.
  • Department of Music created a symphony of melodious achievements. The college Shabad team put their stamp on First prize and collected cash prize of Rs.2100/- at an inter-college shabad gayan contest organized at GHG Khalsa College, Sudhar. Amarpreet gained individual 1st prize and carried home cash prize of Rs.500/-. Prabhjot and Meenakshi won 4th and 5th Prizes respectively. The college shabad team clinched another I prize at an inter-college competition organized at Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College, Kamalpura. Amarpreet & Meenakshi put their seal on the team trophy at Punjabi Gazal competition organized at Punjabi Bhawan, Ludhiana. Amarpreet lifted II prize in the same contest. She bagged another II prize in Folk song category in a folk song contest organized at GGN Khalsa College for Boys. The outstanding singer garnered I prize in folk song category at inter-college contest at Swami Ganga Giri Janta Girls College, Raikot. The group shabad team won III prize at the Shabad Gayan contest organized at KCW, Sidhwan Khurd. Amarpreet plundered II prize & picked III prize in folk song contest at A.S. College for Women, Khanna.
  • Department of Home Science brought numerous prizes. Parmjit Kaur gained I prize in crochet at inter-college contest at Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College for Women, Kamalpura. Jaspreet & Srishti culled II and III prizes in Dupatta Decoration & Dry & artificial flower arrangement categories respectively. At another inter-college contest organized at Punjab College of Technical Education Institute of Hotel Management, Badowal, Srishti fetched III prize in Place setting and napkin folding competition. Tamanna & Vasudha won III prize in Mocktail & Cocktail making category.
  • Department of PGDFD conducted a seminar on the latest trends in sewing machines wherein professionals from Usha sewing machines gave demonstrations regarding the working of latest sewing machines.
  • Department of Various Languages, English, Hindi & Punjabi organized a creative writing contest to tap creative strokes of young minds. Akanksha brought laurels to college by winning II prize in reputed A.C. Bali Declamation contest organized at Panjab University, Chandigarh. At the ‘Punjabi Maat Bhasha Mela’ organized by Punjabi Sahet Academy Punjabi Bhawan, Ludhiana, Navdeep Kaur clinched Ist prize in ‘Punjabi Kavita Poster Contest’ & Parminder Kaur won III prize in Story Writing in Punjabi.
  • Dept. of Economics  organised 49th A.D. Shroff Memorial Elocution competition whereby students expressed their views on thought provoking topics as-Good governance is the need of hour; Role of civil society in ensuring safety of women, White collar crimes and their economic implications, etc.
  • Dept. of Computer Science and Applications, brought accolades to college. At “Technovision”, an inter-college contest held at Guru Nanak Institute of management & Technology, Ludhiana, Enakshi culled two first prizes in Paper presentation & Websurfer categories; Shreya & Sonia clinched first prize in paper presentation & logo designing categories. At another inter-college competition held at A. S. college for Women, Khanna, Kamalpreet & Mehak earned first prize in website development; Tanya sharma & Aishwarya collected II prize in code debugging event. The winning spree continued and Enakshi & Cherub Sumilan bagged I & III prizes respectively in power point presentation contest held at Doraha Institute of Managemnt & Technology, Doraha. The department organized one month summer training workshop wherein 118 students were equipped with knowledge pertaining Adobe Photoshop & Oracle.
  •  Department of Business Management organized an extension lecture on “Right to Information Act” wherein Sh. Sandeep Kapoor, advocate shared the different regulations and procedures of the RTI with the students. An industrial visit was organized to Britannia Industries, Parle, Tanishq and Acme Ltd. Rudarpur, Nainital wherein students got a chance to get hands on experience of the management processes.
  • Dept. of Commerce organized an extension lecture on ‘Skill Development A Catalyst for change”. Dr. S.K. Chadha, University Business School, P.U. Chandigarh dwelt on communicative skill, self-confidence, decision making, time management etc. Aan inter-class debate was organized on topics as social networking Boon or Bane, Despite inflation is India growing? etc. At Spark 2014, an inter-college tech fest organized by Doraha Institute of Management and Technology, Aaina, Gurpreet & Vishnu bagged I prize for the most innovative idea for business planes. An industrial visit to Hero Cycles was organized where students witnessed the production process.
  • Department of Botany organized a fruitful exhibition wherein various plant groups and their economic importance was emphasized. Commendable working models and meaningful charts presented gateway to the World of Algae, Fungi, and Bryophytes etc. The photo exhibition “Botany through Lens” presented a kaleidoscopic view of rare plants of different states of India and few other countries. An educational trip to Kasauli was organized for Medical students whereby they were educated about preserving rainforest through sustainable practices. At Central Research Institute, they were apprised of the ways of manufacturing of various vaccines for Polio, rabies, tetanus, etc.
  • Dept. of Zoology An enlightening lecture on “Immunology and its applications” by Dr. Gupreet Mahal was organized by Dept. of Zoology. He threw light upon challenging diseases as AIDS, Cancer, etc. & elaborated upon various types of immune systems working in our body. An educational trip to college of Fisheries, GADVASU, Ludhiana was also organized. Informative lectures on Induced Breeding and Polyculture were delivered and students were shown different types of Hatcheries, ponds & integrated fish farms.
  • Dept. of Biotechnology Enriching power point presentations on current research areas of Biotechnology as Food Adulteration, Fermented Foods, Effluent Treatment, Immune Responses to infectious diseases etc. were given by the students of Biotechnology. Dept. of Biotechnology organized a poster making competition whereby students made impressive posters on varied topics as Sterilization & Pasteurizations, Bio-war, AIDS, Genetically modified crops, Vaccination etc.
  • Dept. of Chemistry organized an educational visit to Electron Microscope & Nanotechnology Lab at PAU, Ludhiana. Dr. S.S. Mukhopadhya, Director EMN Lab, discussed “Applications of nanoscience in Chemistry”. Students were made conversant with Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), Scanning Electron Microscope, Energy Dispersive Spectroscope etc. & their use in nanotechnology. During an educational trip to Kurukshetra students visited Kalpana Chawla Planetorium and Panorma.
  • Dept. of Physics conducted a mind scratching quiz contest which had five diverse rounds testing the knowledge of students pertaining to concepts of physics & general awareness. As many as 206 students put their calibre to test by appearing for National Graduate Physics examination conducted by Indian Association of Physics Teachers.
  • Department of Mathematics organized a power point presentation competition on several areas of mathematics as Graph Theory, Vedic Maths, Maths in Nature, The Indian Mathematicians etc.
  • Dept. of Psychology organized an extension lecture by Dr. Adarsh Kohli, clinical Psychologist PGI, Chandigarh, wherein she elaborated on dealing with issues of college students: nature of problems they face & how to overcome the same. Creative posters related to mental health of adolescents were also displayed.
  • Dept. of Geography conducted a field survey at village Harmanpura to acquaint students with the socio-economic and demographic characteristics of a rural set-up.
  •  Dept. of History conducted a paper presentation activity which involved students on various topics as History of U.S.A., History of Punjab etc.


The year 2013-14 has been a special year for the college as in addition to the good number of academic positions we have eon two main trophies of Panjab University:

1.      Overall Championship in sports.

2.      Overall trophy at the Zonal youth and heritage festival.



The 51st annual prize distribution was organized on March 4, 2014. An eminent luminary Dr. Daljit Singh, Principal, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana graced the occasion. 39 college and university toppers of the session 2012-13 were presented trophies. 208 achievers in academics were given prizes.


                        The persistence and hard work of students was felicitated on Annual Convocation held on March 26, 2014. 919 students crossed a milestone as they were awarded with degrees. 20 students were the proud recipients of much coveted Roll of Honour, 23 students were decorated with the college colour, 78 students received merit certificates for their out-standing performance in academics, sports and co-curricular activities. The august personality, Dr. Sucha Singh Gill, Director, Centre for research in Rural and Industrial Development, Chandigarh Presided over the function.
