Department of English
The department of English in collaboration with the department of Hindi and the department of Punjabi organized a creative writing contest to tap the hidden talent of the young creative scholars. At Shri Ram Lal Bhasin Declamation contest organized by SDP College, Ludhiana, Inakshi Goyal and Cherub Sumilan Clinched II and III individual prizes respectively. They put their seal on the running trophy as well. Cherub earned the covered 1st prize at an inter-college contest organized at KIMT, Ludhiana. She won a consolation prize at another debate contest organized at Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd.
Department of Hindi And Sanskrit
The department of Hindi and Sanskrit collectively organized a ‘Doha-gayan’ contest to mark the Hindi Divas and promote our national language. Akanksha won the third prize at the prestigious A.C. Bali declamation contest.
Department of Punjabi
The dept of Punjabi organized a quiz contest. Neha Sharma fetched Ist prize at a story writing contest (Panjabi) organised at Panjabi Bhawan to mark ‘Mat Bhasha Divas’.
Department of Computer Science and Applications
During an intensive one-month summer training workshop organized by the department of Computer Science & Applications training was imparted in the subject of Oracle and website development. At an inter-college competition organised at Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Kamalpura, 5 students Paramjit, Sakshi, Manika, Supreet and Taran plundered 6 first prizes in categories as website designing, debugging and Desktop publishing.
Department of Commerce
Department of Commerce organized a trade fair ‘Scanning the Business World’ wherein students showcased their ingenuity. Different aspects of business world – stock and gold markets, banking and insurance, digital and e-marketing, retail sector etc. were presented through models, charts and presentations. Dr S.K.Chadha from Panjab University in his extension lecture on ‘Creativity and Service skills’ highlighted the importance of service quality skills in the current competitive business world.
Department of Business management
‘Pinnacle 2012’ organised by the Business Management department offered a distinct platform to students to exhibit their potential through meaningful chart, documentaries and models. The theme Green Marketing was well received.
Department of Mathematics
Department of Mathematics organised a UGC sponsored National seminar on ‘Applicable Mathematics – computational and quantitative techniques’ on 22nd March 2012 successfully wherein prominent speakers acquainted the audience with innovative ideas of application of mathematics. A grant of Rs 80,000 / was received from the UGC for organising this seminar.
Department of Biotechnology
Department of Biotechnology organised an enriching science exhibition with the theme’ Biotechnology-expanding horizons; Impressive models and charts related to various disciplines of Biotechnology namely Animal biotechnology, Plant biotechnology, Food biotechnology, Environmental biotechnology, Microbiology and Bi – informatics were displayed.
Department of Physics
An extension lecture on ‘Wonders of nanotechnology’ was organised by the Department of Physics wherein Prof. Keya Dharamvir from Panjab University apprised students regarding various aspects of nanotechnology and enlightened students pertaining physical, chemistry and biological application of nanomaterial.
Department of Chemistry
The department of Chemistry organised an innovative science exhibition to mark the ‘International year of Chemistry’. Remarkable models of theory of radioactivity, depletion of ozone layer, aqua saver system, crystal field splitting, Berkley & Heartly apparatus Tyndall effect, etc. were on display, experiments depicting detection of impurities, iron testing in apple and spinach leaves, minerals’ rainbow in a glass etc. arrested everyone’s attention. The department also organised several interactive sessions on nuclear chemistry, green chemistry, global warming etc.
Department of Zoology
The Dept of Zoology organised educational trips to the college of Fisheries, GADVASU, Ldh and Kashmir Apiaries, Doraha. Students gained much from interactive sessions on “Induced Breeding” and “Polyculture”.
Department of Botany
Dept of Botany organised an educational visit to wood seasoning and preservation unit of Harisar Industries at Focal Point. Students were also taken to a firm near Doraha to learn about floriculture which is a good alternative farming profession.
Department of Economics
The department of Economics organised the 47th A.D. Shroff memorial Elocution contest wherein students expressed their views on thought provoking topics as ‘Right to Education in India Issues & Challenges’, ‘India’s Demographic Advantage and Economic Disparities how to bridge the gap?
Department of History
The department of History organised a seminar on Kuka Movement where light was thrown on contribution of Kukas in the freedom struggle.
Department of Geography
The department of Geography organised yet another exhibition wherein stimulating models related to topography and chart depicting major global issues were displayed.
Department of Fine Arts
Department of Fine Arts has brought laurels to college by procuring numerous prizes at various inter-college contests. Navdeep Kaur bagged Ist prize in Poster making contest organised at ‘Punjabi Mat Bhasan Mela’ at Punjabi Bhavan. At another inter college competition held at KIMT, Neha Gupta won IInd prize in Tatoo making category. Ayushi Gupta gained IIIrd Prize in poster making category at inter-college painting competition organised at Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College for Women, Kamalpura. At another contest ‘Mela Dhiyan Da’ organised at Govt. College for Women, Ludhiana, Nehrika and Pushpinder procured IIIrd prizes in poster-making and clay modeling respectively. Navdeep brought home another third prize in an inter-college painting competition held at Khalsa College for Women, Sidhawan Khurd, Ludhiana. Neharika and Mridhu won consolation prizes in painting at a six day camp at Gaiety Theatre, Shimla organised by Dev Bhoomi International painting contest. During one day workshop organised by the department artist Rakesh Sen instructed students in finer nuances of Landscape & Portrait making. The college artists showed their creative talent at Jhankar painting competitions at Panjab University wherein Avni Verma bagged the first prize, Simarpreet, rajinder Kaur and Mridu Jain pocketed the second prize in different categories.
Department of Home Science
Department of Home Science organised a Rakhi making competition which brought creativity of the students to the fore. Rupinder Kaur won IInd prize in ‘Pirhi making’ category at ‘Mela Dheeyan Da’ organised at Govt. College for Women, Ludhiana. At ‘Virsati Vangian’ festival organised at Guru Nanak Khalsa College at Sidhwan Khurd, Kamaljeet Kaur bagged IInd prize in ‘Gudian Patole’ making category.
Department of Music
The Music department contributed to the symphony of melodious achievements. The college group shabad team garnered Ist Prize at inter-college contest organised at Kamaalpura. Amanpreet Kaur and Harminder Kaur bagged Ist and IInd prize in folk song and geet category respectively. At an inter-college Shabad Gyan competition organised at Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd, the group shabad team brought home IInd prize. Amarpreet gained IInd individual prize in the same category. She obtained another second prize in folk song competition organised at ‘Mela Dheeyan da’ at GCW, Ludhiana. In addition to this, the college group shabad team won the coveted IInd prize at Jhankar 2012 held at Panjab University, Chandigarh.
