Organised a Webinar to mark World Wildlife Day.

Khalsa College for Women organized a webinar in collaboration with M.C. Zoological Park Chhatbir and the Department of Forest and Wildlife Preservation, Government of India, to commemorate World Wildlife Day (3rd March, 2024). The event, which featured a nature talk, aimed to increase awareness about wildlife conservation and explore digital innovations in the field. Renowned nature guide Ms. Nayanika Bhatia from The Naturalist School in Bangalore served as the speaker, shedding light on the theme “Connecting People and Planet: Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation” and sharing insights into the role of digital technologies in conservation efforts. The webinar garnered participation from students, faculty and experts underscoring the importance of collaboration, technology, and community engagement in safeguarding biodiversity. KCW’s Department of Zoology reaffirmed its commitment to organizing similar initiatives to promote wildlife conservation awareness and action, emphasizing the ongoing utilization of digital innovation and stakeholder engagement.

Organized an Inter-College Zonal level Geographical Quiz

The Geography Department of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana

organized an Inter-College Zonal level Geographical Quiz in collaboration with

Association of Punjab Geographers in the college auditorium on March 2, 2024.

Around six teams from the various colleges of the zone participated in the contest.

Professor (Retired) H.S Mangat from Punjabi University Patiala and founder of

Punjab Association of Geographers along with Dr. Lakhvir Singh Gill, Principal,

University College, Ghanaur, Patiala graced the event as chief guests of the day.

Five teams qualified for the final rounds after written test. The teams namely Pacific

Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, Arctic Ocean and Southern Ocean competed

for winning trophy.

Team Southern Ocean of KCW won the contest securing first place while Arctic

Ocean from SCD College Ludhiana and Pacific Ocean from Government College for

Girls, Ludhiana secured second and third positions respectively. The Chief Guests

gave away the prizes  and certificates while applauding the winning teams.

Director Dr. Mukti Gill and college Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur congratulated the winning

teams. She also applauded the efforts of Ms. Kulwinder Kaur, Head of Department of

Geography and the staff on the success of the event and scripting the history for

winning the trophy for the third time consecutively. Mrs. Sangeeta Sharma HOD Physics extended a vote of thanks to the guests of the day.

 International Mathematics Day

PG department of Mathematics of KCW organized Innovative Mathematical Games to  celebrate  International Mathematics Day on March 14 with the theme is Playing with Maths. Various Teams showcased their talents with tantalizing games like Coin Jumping,Disco Dance,Minute to win it,Mind Craze, Fusion Crunch,Brainiacs , Probability and many more.Event provided a deep insight into the complex mathematical topics in a playful manner and it was helped instilling analytical and cognitive thinking among all.Playing games encourages strategic mathematical thinking as students find different strategies for solving problems & deepen their understanding of numbers.Judges of the event were Ms Sabina Bhalla head department of English, Dr.Kamaljit Grewal, head department of Botany and  Dr.Parminder Kaur head department of Computer Science.Prizes were as:

First prize – Satya Aggarwal and Purvi sodhi of B.Sc 1

Second Prize-Namya Jain and Mehak of B.Sc II

Third prize -Taniya Arora and Bhavya Ahuja of M.Sc II

Consolation prize -Harnoor and Diya Rani of B.Sc 1

Principal Dr.Iqbal Kaur congratulated and applauded the efforts of students and staff.She motivated the students to keep their efforts live.The event provided a very thrilling experience and fun of hours and relaxation for students.

Slogan writing competition Red Ribbon Club

The KCW Red Ribbon Club, organized Slogan writing competition to celebrate “Zero Discrimination Day” on 1 March 2024.

Zero Discrimination day is helping to create a global movement of solidarity to end all forms of discrimination. This year is the tenth anniversary of zero discrimination day and the theme is “To protect everyone’s health, protect everyone’s rights.”

81 volunteers participated in this event. The event was judged by Dr. Khushdip kaur (Dept. of commerce) and Dr. Narinderjit kaur (Dept. of Punjabi). Ten best volunteers were awarded with prizes namely Niti, Anu, Kanchan, Bhavya, Shalini, Sheetal, Archita, Prachi, Amanpreet, and Muskan. 

The Principal Dr Iqbal Kaur, appreciated the efforts of      KCW, Red Ribbon Club in signifying an unwavering commitment to fight for fairness, equity and respect for everyone.

ZERO DISCRIMINATION DAY ARTICLE WRITING COMPETITION

Department of Sociology, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana celebrated Zero Discrimination Day by organizing an article writing competition on 1st March 2024.The theme for the competition was Equality Before The Law. The event was aimed at promoting inclusion, equality and ending all forms of discrimination and protecting everyone’s rights.                

Dr Prabhleen Toor, Department of English was the esteemed judge for this event in which 17 tudents participated. The articles were submitted in MS WORD document format and it involved writings in all three languages.

Mehakpreet Kaur from BA III bagged the first position while Kanu Rai, BA II bagged the second position and Muskan Mahajan BA II  won third position. Consolation Prize was a bracketed prize awarded to Nidhi and Shalini from BA II and BA III respectively.

The Principal appreciated the Department of Sociology for their initiative against discrimination and making the students aware about equality in the true spirit of the word.

Seminar on Prevention of Incest and Sexual Abuse #AaoBaatKarein

The KCW Counselling Cell, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized a seminar on Prevention of Incest and Sexual Abuse on February 29, 2024, under the ‘Aao Baat Karein’ Interaction Series initiative, focused on preventing, recognizing and reporting of sexual abuse.

Dr. Param Saini, a clinical psychologist who has spent 30 years of her career specializing in prevention of violence against children and women and the behavior pattern of abusive men, was the resource person of the day. Through an informative power point presentation, she discussed the nature of dysfunctional relationship within families, prevalence of abuse and it’s impacts on the delicate psyche on the young victims.

With more than 600 participants, the seminar aimed at creating awareness on the topic by apprising the students of the psychology of the victim, the perpetrators and environmental factors involved. The students were taught to spot the danger signs and characteristics of incestuous figures.

The workshop emphasized on making the students aware of the risk factors and the victimization process to equip the students with the knowledge to recognize and stop such an event from occurring.

The Principal, Dr Iqbal Kaur, appreciated KCW Counselling Cell for empowering students by making the future generations aware and enabling them with knowledge that would benefit the society as well as the whole nation.

TWO-DAY CELEBRATIONS: SCI-AMALGAM 2024

The Faculty of Sciences, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana celebrated ‘National Science Day’ with a two-day event called ‘Sci-Amalgam’ centered around the theme ‘Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat’. The festivities commenced with an engaging talk on 27-02-2024, featuring Dr. Tripat Deep Singh Dua, an Associate Professor from GNIMT, Ludhiana, who shared insights on the theme “Exploring the mysteries of Energy, Science, and Time travel.” Dr. Dua delved into the intricacies of Time, Space, Travel, and Cosmic Energies, elucidating the connections among them. This interactive session facilitated a two-way dialogue, with faculty members and students posing questions regarding Time-travel, Religion, Life and its Accomplishments and Failures, all of which Dr. Dua efficiently addressed, inspiring attendees to tap into their inner energies.

On February 28th, 2024, various science departments organized a multitude of events. Dr. Rachna Sharma was the Chief guest of the event. The Department of Botany hosted a “Botanical Exposition” – a model-making competition where B.Sc (Med) students demonstrated their talents by presenting 3D-working models under categories: Genes, Inflorescence, and Photosynthesis. Simultaneously, the PG Department of Mathematics conducted a Poster presentation competition encompassing topics such as Mathematics, Cryptography, Isaac Newton, Aryabhatta, and more. Additionally, the Department of Biotechnology organized a ‘Bio-Culinary Quest on Indigenous foods,’ where teams of students showcased their culinary skills with native Indian ingredients, focusing on sub-themes like Micro-greens, High-protein, and Fermented foods.

To enhance students’ understanding of scientific principles, the Physics department arranged a Science Model Exhibition titled “Inquisitive Innovators,” featuring cutting-edge ideas and experiments ranging from Rocket Launchers to Renewable Energy projects. The Chemistry Department hosted the ‘Colors of Chemistry’ event, featuring various activities like Colorful Sorcery and Rainbow Fire, among others. The Department of Zoology, orchestrated “Zoographia” – a captivating photography competition. B.Sc. Medical students demonstrated their prowess in photography, capturing the essence of biodiversity through three distinct themes: “Biodiversity in Focus,” “Pets and Companions,” and “Animal Portraits.” A total of 31 students enthusiastically participated, showcasing their talent and passion for photography in depicting the wonders of the natural world and the relationships shared between humans and animals. Esteemed judges evaluated these events, including Ms. Himkanta, Dr. Honey Walia, Ms. Meena Sharma, Dr. Amrinder Caur, Dr. Monita Dhiman and Ms. Ashu. The College Principal, Dr. Iqbal Kaur, commended the efforts and enthusiasm of both students and faculty members, and winners were honored with certificates for their achievements.

Interactive Session on Journalism held at KCW

The English Department of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized an Interactive Session for the students of Functional English.

Ms. Mehak Jain, Journalist from The Times of India was the resource person of the day. She conducted a fruitful stimulating session for the students while opening for them a window of opportunities that they can explore in the field of  journalism. She specifically touched various areas of ground reporting and also shared challenges of a woman being in the field of news reporting and to handle them effectively.

She further discussed the importance of social networking while also highlighted career options in digital and print media. The session concluded with the questions of the students which were answered effectively by the resource person.

The Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur appreciated Mrs. Sabina Bhalla, Head Department of English and the entire staff for their efforts.

ONE WEEK STUDENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME HELD AT KCW

Career Coaching Cell and Department of Economics of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana  in collaboration with Mahindra & Mahindra group , organized a one week Student Development Programme under Mahindra & Mahindra’s CSR initiative “Mahindra Pride Classroom” programme. The objective of the programme was educating the students on various important skills required to excel in life.

Mahindra pride classroom trainer Ms.Shaveta Arora, trainer for Naandi Foundation was the resource person. In this one week programme, she conducted sessions on Life Skills, Soft Skills, Communication Skills and Presentation Skills enriching students’ knowledge and enabling them to tap into their creative potential. She also enriched students with Interview skills required for the corporate world and helps them emerge as successful professionals. 

Around 60 students from various streams of final year UG and PG reaped benefit from this training programme. The students were evaluated on different parameters in terms of their performance. Ms. Hargun of B.A.III, Ms. Sakshi and Ms.Rishita of B.B.A. III were adjudged best students and were awarded trophies. All the students were given certificates at the conclusion. The college Principal congratulated and applauded the efforts of Career Coaching Cell and Department of Economics for making it a success.

KCW Organizes Empower Fest

To celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit of the students and to offer a platform to them for showcasing their innovative entrepreneurial ideas, Department of Commerce under the aegis of IQAC organised ‘Empower Fest’ on Feb 23, 2024 in the portals of Khalsa College for Women civil lines Ludhiana. This fest provided platform to the students to exhibit their skills in five broad categories i.e. Food, Beverages & Gourmet goodies, Beauty and Wellness , DIY decor, Art , Craft and vintage and Tech & Digital Innovation.

Mr. Anand Prakash Sharma, Principal and  Academic Director, Kundan Vidya Mandir School and recipient of UNESCO Award for Women Empowerment acted as the Chief Guest for the day. He was accompanied by Mrs. Mridula Jain, Vice Chairperson, Shingora, who was an Eminent Guest for the event. The event was graced with the presence of the members of management of the college. The Students were adjudged under various categories.                                

  • Garima Sethi of BBA was declared Ist  in the category of Art Craft and Vintage items.
  • Nikita Arora of B.A. won the Ist Prize in the category of DIY decor.
  • Isha Bector of BBA clinched the Ist Prize in the category of Food & Beverages.
  • Navdeep Kaur of BCA was adjudged Ist in the Beauty and Wellness category.
  • Saniya Gupta of Computer Science was declared Ist in the Tech & Innovation Fest.
