The Department of Home Science, Fashion Designing and Beauty and wellness at Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, proudly showcased their creativity at the college’s Diwali Mela

Ludhiana, November 8, 2023. Students Home Science and Fashion Designing set up a vibrant stall featuring an assortment of handmade materials, adding a touch of elegance to the festive event. The Diwali Mela, a joyous occasion organized by the college, was filled with laughter and cheer. Students from the Department of Home Science, Fashion Designing and Beauty and Wellness curated a delightful stall, offering handmade material. The students presented handmade items, including attractive mobile pouches, chunk jewellery, handmade table coasters, cross-stitch laces and patches, Bandhan war, candles, wall hangings, baskets, cheekhu, and enu. beautiful diyas, candles, embroidery samples and artistic Rangoli designs. Visitors were enthralled by the craftsmanship on display, making the event even more memorable.

The Diwali Mela was graced by the presence of esteemed guests, including Dr. mukti Gill, Director of the college, Dr. Iqball Kaur, the college’s Principal, and Dr. Amarinder Kaur, Head of the Department. Their support and encouragement inspired the students, making the event a grand success. The entire staff of the department contributed wholeheartedly to ensure the celebration’s success, spreading joy and happiness to everyone present.

The Diwali Mela organized by Khalsa College for Women provided a platform for the students to exhibit their skills, celebrate the spirit of Diwali, and promote the art of handmade materials. The event’s success is a testament to the collaborative efforts of the students, faculty, and administration, making it a memorable and festive occasion for all.

DIWALI MELA AT KCW

The corridors of KCW reverberated with enthusiasm and joy as the Fine Arts Department of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organised  Diwali Mela on the College Campus on 8th November,2023.  This humongous event was inaugurated by the esteemed members of managing committee Madam Kushal Dhillon, Dr. Ajit Kang, Sardarni Ravinder Kaur Grewal  , Director   Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill and the college Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur.

The Principals of sister institutes also graced the event.

The event kick started with the cultural bonanza where students showcased their talents while entertaining the audience. Students presented folk songs, folk orchestra, mimicry and folk dances. The various departments  of the college put up  around 100 stalls comprising of fancy diyas,stones art, decorative candles and bottles, glass painting and photoframes etc. The event was lined up with scrumptious food junctions where students showcased their marketing skills while serving  delicacies.  Amazing and trendy fashion stalls such as nail art, painted suits and dupattas along with hand made jewellery was another attraction of the event. The Botany Department put up a stall of plants to promote healthy and green diwali. NGOS’ like Guru Gyan Jyoti Welfare Society, Association for Blindsand Ashirwaad and Nanhe Gulistan  that cater to the needs of special children also put up  stalls where beautiful handicrats and handmade chocolates made by the special children were at display. A stall by Prajapita Brahmkumari Eeshvaraya Vishav Vidalaya was set up to guide youngsters on the way to spiritual healing.

The Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur extended heartfelt gratitude to the esteemed members of mangement and the guests for gracing the event. The Mela was a shopper’s paradise that witnessed creativity and talent in full swing and met the expectations of spectators and students alike. 

Youth Red Cross unit of Khalsa college for Women,Civil Lines , Ludhiana celebrated national Cancer day on 7th November ,2023 by organising an awareness lecture on topic Cancer screening and its prevention in women by Dr. Shefali Sood , consultant gynaecologist at SPS hospital, Ludhiana.

Youth Red Cross unit of Khalsa college for Women,Civil Lines , Ludhiana celebrated national Cancer day on 7th November ,2023 by organising an awareness lecture on topic Cancer screening and its prevention in women by Dr. Shefali Sood , consultant gynaecologist at SPS hospital, Ludhiana. 52 students benefit ted by attending the lecture.

Dr Shefali told that there are approx 1,78,000 cases every year detected in women mainly of breast cancer and cervical cancer and are increasing day by day.

She started her lecture by asking very basic questions from students, what is cancer?and what are the main factors due to which it is increasing ?

– more testing gives more data

– sedentary life style

– unhealthy diet

So to reduce this all what they have to do is;

-Self examination

-daily exercise

-papsmear test

– educate other women in your life.

-get screened, screening starts at the age of 21 and is repeated

She also informed the students that cervical cancer cases are associated with a virus HPV. This is preventable by vaccination. Vaccine can prevent more than 90% of HPV.

Expert Lecture on “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning” organized at KCW

The Department of Computer Science of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized an expert lecture on “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning” on November 6th,2023.

The lecture was delivered by Dr. Sonal Chawla, Professor, Department of computer Science and Applications, Panjab University,Chandigarh. Dr. Sonal Chawla  is a well known academician and holds expertise in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. She has to her credit more than 50  publications in renowned International and National journals. Dr. Sonal Chawla offered insights on Artificial Intelligence and highlighted the real time applications of Artificial Intelligence.It was a learning and interactive lecture for the students which concluded with a query session with the expert, wherein questions were answered in an in-depth manner by Dr. Sonal Chawla who provided the students an insight of the current industry practices and trends on Machine learning.

On the occasion, certificates were also distributed to the students who attended various Skill Development Workshops int the field of IT during the session 2022-23, organized by the Department, during the session. More than 200 students were awarded certificates. Special Awards of Appreciation were also awarded to students who excelled in academic and co curricular activities.The Principal, Dr. (Mrs) Iqbal Kaur, thanked the resource person for her informative lecture and appreciated the efforts of the faculty of Department of Computer Science for organizing the lecture.

KCW girls win P.U Intercollege Basketball Championship

Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana has Won P.U Intercollege Basketball Championship held at Panjabi University Chandigarh from 1Nov to 3 Nov 2023.

During the Legue Matches KCW beat P.U. Campus with score 79-38 and GGSCW-26 with score 67-39 in Final match.

The Winning team members comprise Shamma Parveen, Nandani Saha, Manmeet Kaur, Karanveer Kaur, Bhavika Dhir, Anchal, Kanishka Dhir, Muskan and Coaches:- Mr. Rajinder, Mr. Narinder, Ms. Saloni, Mr. Ravinder, Mr. Sukhwinder.

Director Dr. Mukti Gill and Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur Congratulated the team along with S. Teja Singh (Hon. Sec. PBA) and Coaches for the Victory and to Dr. Mandeep Kaur (HOD) Physical Education & her team for the success.

An Inter-college Blog writing Competition held at Khalsa College for Women

The Economics Department of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, organized an inter-college blog writing competition on the theme India’s G20 Presidency: An opportunity to shape a new paradigm of human-centric Globalisation on 3rd November 2023.As many as 22 students from  various colleges  participated in the competition enthusiastically. The students showcased their skills on the various themes such as galvanising green initiatives as one earth, promoting inclusive growth as one family, synergising technology for one future. Dr. Prabhleen Toor from Department of English judged the blog entries on the basis of clarity of ideas, presentation and writing skills.

Harneet Kaur from GNKCW, Ludhiana bagged first prize while Riya Rattan of SCD, Government College Ludhiana and Komalpreet Kaur, GNKCW, Ludhiana were adjudged second and third respectively. A consolation prize was given to Gaganpreet Kaur, KCW, Ludhiana.

Dr Mukti Gill Director and Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur applauded the efforts of the Economics Department on the success of the event. They further added that such competitions empower the youngsters with practical skills and motivate them for innovation.

Students of Khalsa College for Women Showcased Exceptional Talents at BCM Arya Model Sr. Sec. School’s Annual Exhibition

Ludhiana, Punjab – On October 30, 2023, The talented students of the Department of Home Science and Fashion Designing at Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, proudly exhibited their creative masterpieces at the BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School’s Annual Exhibition. The event, aptly named “Anvesha – The Skill Revolution 2023,” showcased the incredible skills and creativity of the students.

The students—Anjali, Nandani, Sonali, Deepika, and Simran—presented handmade items, including attractive mobile pouches, chunk jewellery, handmade table coasters, cross-stitch laces and patches, Bandhan war, candles, wall hangings, baskets, cheekhu, and enu. These meticulously crafted items not only demonstrated their talent but also highlighted the department’s commitment to nurturing creativity and innovation among its students.

Under the guidance of the dedicated Department Head, Dr. Amarinder Caur, and with the support of the entire staff, the students worked tirelessly to bring their visions to life. Their efforts were met with admiration and praise from the visitors, including students, parents, and educators present at the exhibition.

Dr. Iqbal Kaur, the Principal of Khalsa College for Women, expressed her immense pride in the students’ accomplishments and extended her heartfelt congratulations to Anjali, Nandani, Sonali, Deepika, and Simran. It highlighted the college’s commitment to providing a platform for students to develop essential life skills beyond academics.

Mental Health Awareness Month

A community mental health drive was organised by the Counselling Cell of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines , Ludhiana to mark the World Mental Health Month. In a unique social outreach effort, psychology students from around ten city schools along with their teachers participated. A seminar titled ”Dealing with Mental Health Issues among  Youth” was organised to make the students aware of mental health issues and to empower them to help deal with daily life challenges and stressors. The resource person for the seminar, Mrs. Sunita Sharma, MD, PELTC, a certified trainer by NIESBUD and EX-registrar, STEP-GNDEC elaborated on various Mental Health problems and gave practical tips on inculcating positive Mental Health practices in our daily lives. The aim was to teach the students about positive mental health and make them ambassadors of change so that they could help themselves and others around them to deal proactively with mental health issues prevalent in the contemporary youth.

Further, the Department of Psychology organized a Poster Making Competition on the theme, Mental Health.

53 students from ten schools and three colleges from the city participated by making informative posters describing various aspects of mental health. The results were as follows:

Dr. Mukti Gill, Director Institutional Development and Dr. Iqbal Kaur, Principal Khalsa College for Women gave away the prizes. They appreciated the enthusiasm of the participants to gain knowledge for the improvement of self as well as the society. The efforts of the Department of Psychology and Counselling Cell were also applauded, for being actively engaged in taking the Mental Health Issues to the masses for the benefit of the community.

WORLD SPACE WEEK -2023 CELEBRATIONS AT K.C.W

During world space week celebrations at KCW, Civil lines Ludhiana, department of Physics organised  power point  presentation with “Space and Entrepreneurship” as focal theme of the programme on Oct6,2023 in which students of B.Sc participated with great zeal and enthusiasm. In which  first prize was  bagged by Prisha Murghai of BSc 2nd year, while second prize was given  to Gracy Chauhan  of BSc 1st  year. The third prize was bagged by Vedehi Dhir of B.Sc-3 while consolation prize was given to Jasmine Kaur of BSc 1st year. Director Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill and Principal Dr. (Mrs) Iqbal Kaur applauded the efforts of students .The winners were awarded with prizes and certificates

Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Collaborates with Ludhiana Zoo for an Enlightening Exhibition on Biodiversity and Conservation Insights

The Department of Zoology at Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, joined hands with Ludhiana Zoo, Department of Forest and Wildlife Conservation, Punjab, Government of India, to host a remarkable exhibition titled “Exploring Biodiversity: Taxonomic Treasures and Conservation Insights.” The event, which took place on 6th October, welcomed students from various schools, with esteemed school principals as the distinguished guests. 120 students and 6 faculty from various schools took part in this event. The exhibition aimed to provide an immersive experience that celebrated biodiversity and shed light on the critical need for conservation efforts. It was graced by the presence of school principals, including Ms. Balwinder from Govt Model Sr. Sec. School, PAU; Ms. Karamjit Kaur from Govt Sr. Sec. School, Civil Lines; and Ms. Charanjit Kaur from Govt Sr. Sec Model School, Cementary Road, Ludhiana.

The inauguration ceremony commenced with a warm welcome note, setting the stage for an enriching day ahead. Floral greetings were exchanged as a symbol of unity and collaboration in the cause of wildlife conservation. The event further commenced with a documentary show highlighting the vital topic of tiger conservation, illustrating the importance of protecting our majestic wildlife. The ceremonial lighting of lamps added a touch of solemnity to the event, signifying the enlightenment and awareness the exhibition sought to bring about. The presence of esteemed guests and participants from various schools created an atmosphere of enthusiasm and shared commitment to wildlife conservation.

Following the exhibition tour, students had the privilege of engaging in an interactive session, fostering experiential learning. This interactive segment allowed young minds to explore and inquire about the captivating world of biodiversity and the importance of its preservation. The exchange of ideas and knowledge was both enlightening and inspiring.
