The Department of Biotechnology, Khalsa College for Women, Civil lines Ludhiana hosted an event on the theme, “Biotechnology: Innovations & Contributions towards Sustainability” on November 05, 2024. The event featured Declamation contest, Poster presentation and Idea factory competition, conducted in two categories viz. Category I (Inter-School) and Category II (Inter-College). Students shared their insightful ideas on various sub-themes such as Green technologies to control pollution, Biofuels, Quality enhancement of life through biotechnology, Artificial intelligence in health sciences, special foods and meal management, Environment management: contribution of mankind. Students of 10+1, 10+2 and B.Sc (Hons.) Biotechnology from various schools and colleges including R.S Model Sr. Sec. School, Nankana Sahib Public School, Guru Nanak Girls College model town, Bal Bharti Public School, St Thomas Sen. Sec. School, BVM Sr. Sec. School and KCW, Ludhiana displayed their ideas and thoughts in the form of Declamation and Poster. Moreover, students also showed their creativity and critical thinking in Idea factory competition on the theme BioE3 via innovative solutions aimed at sustainable environmental impact. The competitions were judged by an esteemed panel from PAU, GADVASU and KCW, Ludhiana. Each participant received a certificate of participation, and the winners were honored with trophies. The objective of the event was to spark creativity and awareness on the role of biotechnology in advancing sustainability and improving human welfare. Overall the event was successful in its goal of generating awareness and promoting contribution of Biotechnology towards sustainability and environmental welfare. The College management, Principal, Dr (Mrs.) Kamaljit Grewal and Director, Dr (Mrs.) Mukti Gill congratulated the Department for success of the event and appreciated their dedication and tireless efforts along with encouraging them.

Organized a Dengue Awareness Campaign
Youth Red Cross Club of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized a Dengue Awareness Campaign on 5-11-2024 in collaboration with Department of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab, an initiative by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Punjab. The members from The Family Health and Welfare Department from Ludhiana Parminder Singh (District Mass Media and Information Officer Civil Surgeon Ludhiana) Barjinder Singh Brar (District BCC Coordinator) visited the college campus and sensitized the students about the symptoms of dengue and its prevention. Apart from this, he also requested the students to keep their house clean and tidy so that dengue and other such terrible diseases can be controlled. About 100 students were present on this occasion.
At the end of the program, the college Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal appreciated the efforts of the Punjab Government and Health and Family Welfare Department. She further said that if such efforts are made by the governments from time to time, we will become heirs of a better, brighter and healthier future with a healthy society. On this occasion in charge of Youth Red Cross Club Ms.Rajbir Kaur member Dr. Sukhjit Kaur, Ms.Kulwinder Kaur and Ms. Navneet Kaur were also present.
Celebrates National Unity Day with Reel Making Competition
The Department of Political Science at Khalsa College for Women commemorated National Unity Day by organizing a captivating Reel Making Competition. The event aimed to inspire students to creatively express their understanding of India’s diverse culture, history, and unity.
Participants showcased their talents by crafting engaging short videos that highlighted the significance of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s contributions to nation-building. The competition encouraged students to delve into the rich tapestry of India’s heritage and foster a sense of national pride.
The winning entries will be recognized and awarded prizes during a special ceremony. The college extends its gratitude to all participants for their enthusiastic participation and dedication.
Skill Enhancement: Learn and Thrive
Science students displayed a wide variety of innovative creations in Diwali Mela on October 26,2024 at Khalsa College for Women Civil Lines ,Ludhiana bringing the lively celebrations of Diwali . The event, which was held under the supervision of Department of Physics, gave students a chance to showcase their efforts to visitors and college community.
Students showcased technological projects that emphasized the importance of blend of academic study with practical work experience, supporting both skill development and financial gain . In Diwali at a number of stalls during the mela, such as eco-friendly diya creation, energy-efficient lighting, and imaginative creations were showcased. Some students demonstrated their dedication to environmental awareness by focusing on sustainable practices and offering pollution-free crackers and eco-friendly substitutes for conventional Diwali décor. Director Dr.(Mrs.)Mukti Gill and Principal Dr.(Mrs.)Kamaljit Grewal applauded the efforts of students and the staff and encouraged them to arrange more activities like this.
Two – day baking workshop organized by Home Science Department
A two day baking workshop was conducted in the Home Science department on 28.10.2024 and 29.10.2024, under the supervision of Dr. Amarinder Caur, the Head of the Department of Home Science at Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana.
The workshop aimed to familiarize the students to baking as a culinary technique that employs dry heat, typically in an oven for food preparation.
The session was facilitated by Inderpreet Kaur, a professional baker from Ludhiana, who provided a step-by-step demonstration on cake baking and cookies baking. About 44 students from BA – first year and third year – Home Science and multi-disciplinary course –Home Science, attended the workshop allowing them to get acquainted with this cooking method.
Organized Diwali Mela
The corridors of KCW reverberated with enthusiasm and joy as the Fine Arts Department of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organised Diwali Mela on the College Campus on 26th October,2024. This humongous event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr. Poonampreet Kaur, SDM, Ludhiana and the esteemed members of managing committee Dr. Ajit Kang, Sardarni Ravinder Kaur Grewal, Madam Manmeet Kaur Grewal, Sardar Gursimran Singh Grewal, Director Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill and the college Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal. The Principals of sister institutes also graced the event.
The various departments of the college put up around 90 stalls comprising of fancy diyas,stones art, decorative candles and bottles, glass painting and photoframes etc. The event was lined up with scrumptious food junctions where students showcased their marketing skills while serving delicacies. Amazing and trendy fashion stalls such as nail art, painted suits and dupattas along with hand made jewellery was another attraction of the event. The Botany Department put up a stall of plants to promote healthy and green diwali. NGOS’ like Guru Gyan Jyoti Viklang Welfare Society, Ek Jot ViklangBachon ka School and Association for Blinds catering to the needs of special children also put up stalls where beautiful handicraft were at display.
The Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal extended heartfelt gratitude to the esteemed members of management and the guests for gracing the event. The Mela was a shopper’s paradise that witnessed creativity and talent in full swing and met the expectations of spectators and students alike.
One day Workshop on Resume Writing
The placement cell of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana in association with Hits-bulls eye, Ludhiana organized a workshop on “RESUME WRITING” for the college students of different courses. The objective of the workshop was to train the students in the preparation of resume writing.
The resource person of the workshop was Ishwar Sandhu who has a corporate experience of more than six years working with Convergys and JP Morgan Chase. He carries a teaching and mentoring experience of more than 18 years enriched with government, private and corporate clientele. He is an academician with comprehensive knowledge of international curriculum. He conducted the workshop and discussed various techniques with students on how to create an effective resume. He also explained various formats along with their uses. During the workshop students learned essentials of writing effective resume for targeting specific jobs in a competitive job marketing so as to make good first impression. Mock resume writing exercise was also conducted during workshop.
The workshop was concluded in the august presence of Dr. Kamaljit Grewal, Principal, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana and the resource person of this workshop. A thoughtful reflection was added by Principal Ma’am, who mentioned the need to organize workshops like this to make students aware of the importance resume writing.
Seminar on “Dream it, Achieve it
Khalsa College for Women’s Placement Cell, in collaboration with the Do Good Foundation, recently hosted an inspiring seminar titled “Dream it, Achieve it,” featuring Ms. Jasmine Pahwa, an IT engineer and founder of the foundation. Ms. Pahwa captivated the audience with her personal journey of following her passions and overcoming challenges. She emphasized the importance of setting realistic goals, maintaining resilience, and staying true to one’s purpose. A key takeaway from the seminar was her message on the power of determination, coupled with self-belief, in transforming dreams into reality. Ms. Pahwa’s success story, particularly her efforts in founding “Vehra Dhiyaan Da,” a daycare for underprivileged girls, left a lasting impression on the students, motivating them to pursue their dreams while making a positive impact on society. A special thanks was extended to Ms. Megha Kansal, an alumnus of the college, for her special efforts in enlightening the students and making the event a success.
Mental Health Awareness Drive and Inter-School Poster Making Competition
A community mental health drive was organized by Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana to mark the month of October as Mental Health Awareness Month. KCW Counselling Cell organized a Seminar titled “Promoting Awareness and Well-Being” while an Inter-School Poster Making Competition was organized by the Department of Psychology. In this event, psychology students and their teachers from around eight city schools took part. This event aimed to raise awareness of mental health issues and empower students to navigate daily life challenges and stress.
The seminar featured Ms. Aayushi Jain, an RCI Licensed Clinical Psychologist, who discussed various mental health problems and offered practical advice for integrating positive mental health practices into everyday life. The goal was to educate students about positive mental health and encourage them to become ambassadors of change, enabling them to support themselves and others in addressing the mental health challenges faced by today’s youth.
Additionally, the Department of Psychology hosted an Inter-School Poster Making Competition with the theme, #Movement: Moving More for Our Mental Health. Thirty-nine students from eight local schools participated by creating informative posters highlighting different aspects of mental health.

The Department of Psychology and the Counselling Cell were also appreciated for their active efforts in raising awareness of mental health issues for the benefit of the community.
KCW Students bagged University Positions in PGDFD
The students of Khalsa College for women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, achieved outstanding positions in Post graduate diploma in Fashion Designing, 2nd semester results of which were declared by Panjab University. Six students of the college placed their names in top ten university positions, Gurdeep Kaur stood Second in University securing 92 percent marks.
