Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Collaborates with Ludhiana Zoo for an Enlightening Exhibition on Biodiversity and Conservation Insights

The Department of Zoology at Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, joined hands with Ludhiana Zoo, Department of Forest and Wildlife Conservation, Punjab, Government of India, to host a remarkable exhibition titled “Exploring Biodiversity: Taxonomic Treasures and Conservation Insights.” The event, which took place on 6th October, welcomed students from various schools, with esteemed school principals as the distinguished guests. 120 students and 6 faculty from various schools took part in this event. The exhibition aimed to provide an immersive experience that celebrated biodiversity and shed light on the critical need for conservation efforts. It was graced by the presence of school principals, including Ms. Balwinder from Govt Model Sr. Sec. School, PAU; Ms. Karamjit Kaur from Govt Sr. Sec. School, Civil Lines; and Ms. Charanjit Kaur from Govt Sr. Sec Model School, Cementary Road, Ludhiana.

The inauguration ceremony commenced with a warm welcome note, setting the stage for an enriching day ahead. Floral greetings were exchanged as a symbol of unity and collaboration in the cause of wildlife conservation. The event further commenced with a documentary show highlighting the vital topic of tiger conservation, illustrating the importance of protecting our majestic wildlife. The ceremonial lighting of lamps added a touch of solemnity to the event, signifying the enlightenment and awareness the exhibition sought to bring about. The presence of esteemed guests and participants from various schools created an atmosphere of enthusiasm and shared commitment to wildlife conservation.

Following the exhibition tour, students had the privilege of engaging in an interactive session, fostering experiential learning. This interactive segment allowed young minds to explore and inquire about the captivating world of biodiversity and the importance of its preservation. The exchange of ideas and knowledge was both enlightening and inspiring.

The “Exploring Biodiversity: Taxonomic Treasures and Conservation Insights” exhibition served as a valuable platform for students to connect with the wonders of the natural world. It emphasized the critical role of conservation in safeguarding our planet’s biodiversity. Dr Mrs Mukti Gill , Director and Dr Iqbal Kaur, Principal Khalsa College for Women extends their heartfelt gratitude to Ludhiana Zoo for their invaluable partnership in making this exhibition a success. This event reaffirms our commitment to fostering a deeper understanding of biodiversity and instilling a sense of responsibility to protect and preserve our natural heritage for future generations.

KCW Biotech Conducted Workshop and Poster Making Competition

The Department of Biotechnology, Khalsa College for Women, civil lines Ludhiana organized an event on, “Emerging trends in Science and Technology” on 04th October, 2023 in which a workshop was conducted for science students on the theme ‘‘Research techniques used in the field of Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics’. 14 students from different schools viz. R.S Model Sr. Sec. School, Nankana Sahib Public School, D.A.V Public School, G.G.N. Public School and S.S.R. School for meritorious students, Ludhiana gained insight into research techniques i.e. isolation and screening of microbes, testing of personal hygiene, DNA isolation from bacterial culture, gel electrophoresis, introduction to various biological databases, protein sequence and structure analysis. Simultaneously a poster making competition was organised on various sub themes: Man’s Mission to moon: A step towards exploring life beyond planet, Green Technologies for cleaner environment, Artificial Intelligence in Health Science, Role of Biotechnology in welfare of Mankind, Stem Cell and regenerative Medicine, Role of Biotechnology in India’s fight against the COVID-19 Pandemicin which 15 students from schools and 13 students of B.Sc (Hons.) Biotechnology presented their ideas on above mentioned themes. Judgement was done by Ms. Sheetal Rana, Principal patent research analyst Signicent Information Solutions, Mohali. All the participants were awarded certificates and trophies were given to the winners. Overall the event fulfilled its aim of generating awareness on contribution of science and technology for the welfare of mankind and environment. The college management and Principal appreciated the tireless efforts of the department and motivated them for future endeavours.

Photography Workshop

The Photography Club  of Khalsa College for Women ,civil Lines Ludhiana,organized a one day workshop on” Photography Skills”in college .The workshop was conducted by Parv Kalia ,founder of chromatic pixels. He apprised the students about the various techniques of photography. He delivered lecture on tips and techniques of photography such as Exposure, Shutter- speed, Aperture, ISO, Lightning and Camera shooting modes. He further discussed the intricacies of how to capture Landscapic compositions and Portraits.

The Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur and Director Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill appreciated the efforts of the photography club and encouraged the students to use such tips and techniques.

“Wildlife Wonders: Tales from the Animal Kingdom”

The Department of zoology, Khalsa college for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana in collaboration with Ludhiana Zoo, Department of Forest and Wildlife Preservation, Punjab initiated the celebrations of National Wildlife Week- 2023 under the theme “Partnership for Wildlife Conservation”.  The day one showcased a documentary series titled “Wildlife Wonders: Tales from the Animal Kingdom.” It was a captivating and educational event that celebrated the diverse and awe-inspiring world of wildlife. The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of conservation, biodiversity, and our interconnectedness with the animal kingdom. The centerpiece of day one was the screening of several compelling wildlife documentaries that offered viewers a glimpse into the lives, behaviors, and habitats of remarkable creatures from around the world.

  1. Life: Creatures of the Deep
  2. The Kingdom of Tigers
  3. Barahsingha: The soul of Kanha
  4. Just Life: Just Insects

Each documentary provided educational insights into the lives and conservation efforts of various wildlife species, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for the natural world. The event attracted a diverse audience, including students and faculty from different steams from the the college. “Wildlife Wonders: Tales from the Animal Kingdom” was a resounding success, achieving its goal of raising awareness about wildlife conservation and celebrating the beauty and diversity of Earth’s creatures. The event underscored the importance of collective efforts to protect and preserve the natural world for future generations. We express our gratitude to all who contributed to the event’s success. Together, we can ensure a future where wildlife continues to thrive and enrich our lives.

World Habitat Day observed at Khalsa College for Women

Department of Geography observed World Habitat Day, which is celebrated on first Monday in the month of October every year.  Raminder Kaur and Surbhi Saini students of B.A II presented a power point presentation helping students to understand the meaning of  habitat and its importance. The students further apprised the youngsters about its recognition by the United Nations along with aims and objectives to be  achieved. The day is marked under the theme “Resilient urban economies. Cities as drivers of growth and recovery” for the year 2023.

The College Principal applauded the efforts of the Department of Geography and also spoke about the collective responsibility of the humans to arrange shelter for all.

Celebration of Gandhi Jayanti under Swachhta Hi Seva (SHS) campaign (2nd October, 2023)

On the occasion of the birth anniversary of father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, Department of Political Science, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organised One Act Play with the theme Swachhta Hi Seva (SHS). Gandhian ideals were depicted through a skit which the students presented in the most eloquent manner. Students actively took part in the cleanliness drive and take a pledge on Swach Bharat mission. Additionally, on this occasion, the documentary namely ‘Mahatma Gandhi Aur Bharat’ on Gandhi’s life was also shown to students. All the Students were imbued with Gandhian values and thoughts on Swach Bharat. Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur and Director Dr.Mukti Gill applauded the efforts made by students and also encouraged them to adapt Gandhian Philosophy on Swachhta.

Celebrated Swachh Bharat Diwas at Khalsa College for Women

02 October 2023: To mark the birth anniversary of Father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi under the guidelines of the Government of India, Chief Secretary Punjab and Director Higher Education Department, programs and competitions were organized by various departments and clubs dedicated to Swachh Bharat Diwas at Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana.  A song and poetry recitation competition was organized by the Post Graduate Punjabi Department and Music Department of the college under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in which about 30 girl students participated.  Quiz competitions related to the life of Mahatma Gandhi were organized by the History Department, PPT related to Waste Management was presented by the Youth Club and Mathematics Department.  Online slogan writing competitions were organized by the BBA and English departments under the  theme of ‘Swachh Bharat – Swasth Bharat’.  Student Council, Chemistry Department and Economics Departments organized online poster making competitions related to Swachh Bharat.  A drama related to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was played by the Department of Political Science.  Students from department of Physics expressed their ideas of Swacch Bharat through various creative posters and poetry. Clean Run activity was organized by the Physical Education Department.  On this occasion, college Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur and group staff distributed prizes and certificates to all the students. 

The college principal, while thanking everyone for participating wholeheartedly, encouraged the students to participate in such activities in the future and make everyone aware about under Swachh Bharat campaign.  With the help of staff, students conducted a cleanliness campaign in the college campus and made it a clean and healthy campus.  Information and photographs about all programs, events and activities were uploaded to the Higher Education Department.

30 ਸਤੰਬਰ 2023 : ਖ਼ਾਲਸਾ ਕਾਲਜ ਫ਼ਾਰ ਵਿਮੈਨ ਸਿਵਲ ਲਾਈਨਜ਼ , ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ  ਦੇ ਪੋਸਟ ਗਰੈਜੂਏਟ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ,  ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਮਰਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵੱਲੋਂ  ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਦਿਵਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਕਲਾ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਗਏ,  ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ   ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਤੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਰਾ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ,  ਸ਼ਬਦ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਅਤੇ ਧੁਨੀ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ, ਪੀ ਪੀ ਟੀ ਦੀ ਪੇਸ਼ਕਾਰੀ,  ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨੋਤਰੀ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ,  ਲੋਗੋ ਡਿਜ਼ਾਇਨ ਆਦਿ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਗਏ।  ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਵਜੋਂ ਡਾ  . ਕੰਵਲਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ,   ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਦੇ  ਮੈਂਬਰ  ਨੇ ਉਚੇਚੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕੀਤੀ।  ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ 300 ਦੇ ਕਰੀਬ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਨੇ ਭਾਗ ਲਿਆ।  ਜੇਤੂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਟੀਫਿਕੇਟ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ।  ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ  ਨੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਕਲਾ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਸਾਂਝ ਦਾ ਸਰੋਤ ਹੈ। ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਕਲਾ ਦਾ ਘੇਰਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਜਿਹੇ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਈ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਏਕਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਖੰਡਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਇਮ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਦੀ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ। ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਨੀਤੀ 2020 ਦੇ ਅੰਤਰਗਤ ਇਹ ਕਲਾ ਅਜੋਕੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀ ਮੁੱਖ ਲੋੜ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ ਇਕਬਾਲ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਸਮੂਹ ਸਟਾਫ ਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਈ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅਜੋਕੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਕਲਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਨਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਜਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ ।ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਤਹਿ ਦਿਲੋਂ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਹੱਲਾਸ਼ੇਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ । ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਸਮੂਹ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਸਨ।

30 ਸਤੰਬਰ 2023 : ਖ਼ਾਲਸਾ ਕਾਲਜ ਫ਼ਾਰ ਵਿਮੈਨ ਸਿਵਲ ਲਾਈਨਜ਼ , ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਦਿਵਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਕਲਾ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ   ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਤੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਰਾ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ,  ਸ਼ਬਦ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਅਤੇ ਧੁਨੀ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਆਦਿ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਗਏ।  ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਵਜੋਂ ਡਾ  . ਕੰਵਲਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ,   ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਦੇ  ਮੈਂਬਰ  ਨੇ ਉਚੇਚੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕੀਤੀ।  ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ 50 ਦੇ ਕਰੀਬ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਨੇ ਭਾਗ ਲਿਆ।  ਜੇਤੂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਟੀਫਿਕੇਟ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ।  ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਪੋਸਟ ਗਰੈਜੂਏਟ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਡਾ ਨਰਿੰਦਰਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਕਲਾ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਸਾਂਝ ਦਾ ਸਰੋਤ ਹੈ। ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਕਲਾ ਦਾ ਘੇਰਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਜਿਹੇ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਈ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਏਕਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਖੰਡਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਇਮ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਦੀ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ। ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਨੀਤੀ 2020 ਦੇ ਅੰਤਰਗਤ ਇਹ ਕਲਾ ਅਜੋਕੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀ ਮੁੱਖ ਲੋੜ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ ਇਕਬਾਲ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਸਮੂਹ ਸਟਾਫ ਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਈ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅਜੋਕੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਕਲਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਨਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਜਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ ।ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਤਹਿ ਦਿਲੋਂ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਹੱਲਾਸ਼ੇਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ । ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਸਮੂਹ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਸਨ।

Youth Red Cross unit of Khalsa college for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana celebrated World Heart Day

Youth Red Cross unit of Khalsa college for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana celebrated World Heart Day on 29th September,2023. An awareness programme was organised by Red Cross volunteers, which included presenting an awareness lecture on heart health and its protection by Red Cross volunteer Yashika. She mentioned in her presentation that all of us should take care of following points: –

-reduce salt consumption

-choose healthy diet

-maintain healthy weight

-exercise daily

-don’t smoke

-limit alcohol consumption

Students were also awarded through displaying placards with logos;

– use heart know heart

-love your heart

-care your heart, care yourself

Total of six students participated in this activity and 80 students benefited by getting awareness.
