ਅਤੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸ. ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਦਿਹਾੜੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਣ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਗਏ ,

ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ 40 ਦੇ ਕਰੀਬ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਭਾਗੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਭਾਗ ਲਿਆ। ‘ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰਧਾਰਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ

Seminar on Waste Management at Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana

Youth Club Khalsa College for Women, in collaboration with Switch for Change Foundation, organized a successful seminar on “Waste Management” on September 26, 2023. The event featured distinguished guest speakers, Mr. Gaurav Singh, Founder of Switch for Change, and Ms. Amandeep Kaur, Director of the NGO. Waste management has emerged as a critical concern in today’s world, and the seminar served as a platform to address this pressing issue. Participants, including students and faculty gathered here to gain insights into effective waste management strategies and innovative solutions. The event emphasized the pivotal role of responsible waste management practices in building a sustainable future for our community. Mr. Gaurav Singh (Founder, Switch for Change) shared his expertise and experiences, highlighting the urgent need for waste reduction and the promotion of eco-friendly practices. Ms. Amandeep Kaur (Director, Switch for Change) offered valuable insights into the impactful work undertaken by Switch for Change Foundation. She showcased real-world examples of successful waste management initiatives that have made a positive difference in our communities. The Youth Club at Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, remains steadfast in its dedication to raising awareness and fostering community engagement among students. The seminar was a testament to their commitment to promoting sustainable practices and environmental consciousness.

Switch for Change Foundation is a non-governmental organization with a mission to drive positive change by addressing environmental challenges. With a particular focus on waste management and sustainability, the NGO is making strides in creating a greener and cleaner future for all. The seminar on “Waste Management” was a significant milestone in our collective journey toward addressing the waste management challenges faced by our community. It is our fervent hope that the knowledge shared and connections formed during this event will translate into concrete actions and contribute to a more responsible and sustainable approach to waste management in Ludhiana.

KCW Sports Players Make it to Asian Games, 2023

A Proud moment for Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana as two sports players from the Physical Education Department of the college have been selected to represent India in the Asian Games 2023, taking place from September 23rd to October 8 in Hangzhou, China. Manmeet Kaur, B.A I and Jyoti Tokas M.A I English have been selected for 5×5 Basketball and Kurash respectively.

Manmeet has been trained by Late Devinder Singh Dhindsa and Madam Saloni, their coaches at the Ludhiana center. Jyoti Tokas has got her training under the coaches Sanunder Tokas, Mr. Ravinder Dahiya and Mr. Parveen Thakur. Tokas has already added many medals to her kitty with her power packed performances at various events. She has won a silver and a bronze in Khelo India, 2022 as well as All India Inter- university competitions.

R.S Gill, President, Panjab Basketball Association, Senior Vice President Yurinder Singh Hayer, Vice President Mr. M.S Bhullar, General secretary S. Teja Singh and J P Singh have termed the selection a proud moment for Punjab State.

The Members of college managing committee, Director Dr. Mukti Gill and Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur congratulated Dr. Mandeep Kaur, Head of Physical Education Department and the entire staff for the achievement. They also extended their best wishes to the students.

Mathematical Rangoli and Collage Making Competition at KCW

PG Department of Mathematics of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, organised Mathematical Rangoli and Collage Making competition. Students of Under graduate & Post graduate classes enthusiastically participated and presented their Mathematical Rangoli  and Collage on various topics like  Platonic solids, Konigsberg Model, Invisible power of Mathematics, Geometric figures, Coordinate Geometry, Applications of Trigonometry, Probability, Women in Mathematics, Statistics and Statisticians etc.This competition was organised to give an opportunity to the students to display their Mathematical skills.The main goal of organising this competition is to bring out the creative expression of students and to gauge their knowledge and awareness of various trends in Mathematics.Judges of the event were Ms.Sangeeta Sharma ,HOD of Physics and Ms.Inderpreet Kaur, Computer Science Department.

Star cast of Punjabi Film ‘Gaddi Jandi Ae Chalaangaan Mardi’’ visits Khalsa College for Women

A wave of joy spread through KCW on the arrival of the star cast of upcoming punjabi movie ‘Gaddi Jandi Ae Chalaangaan Mardi’ in the campus. The star cast of upcoming Punjabi movie visited Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines Ludhiana on September 20, 2023.  Notable actors Amy Virk, Beenu Dhillon, Jaswinder Bhalla, Jasmin Bajwa and Mahi Sharma were at the campus for the promotion of their new  film Gaddi Jandi Ae Challanga Mardi in the college auditorium. The team was extended a warm welcome by the Members of College Managing Committee Sardar Gursimran Singh Grewal, Treasurer and Madam Kushal Dhillon, Manager KCW, Director Dr. Mukti Gill, college Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur, staff and students. The students were thrilled to watch their favourite stars.

While addressing the students Jaswinder Bhalka and Amy Virk  shared the story line of their movie; a piece of entertainment which  centres around a car leading to comic situations amidst the struggles of a middle class family.  The movie has a deep message for the society regarding the curse of Dowry that is still prevalent in society in many ways. Amy Virk sang songs mesmerising the audience with his melodious voice while the other actors also entertained the students.

The Members of College Managing committee extended tokens of appreciation to the celebrities and  thanked them for gracing the corridors of KCW.

Khalsa College for Women Celebrates Hindi Divas

 Hindi Divas was celebrated with great enthusiasm by the Hindi Sahitya Sabha of the Hindi Department on 14 September 2023.  College Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur participated as the chief guest on the occasion.  To mark the day, a poster making competition was organized  wherein around 50 students participated.  Students exhibited their creativity through beautiful posters showcasing the importance of Hindi language.

 The program kick started with Saraswati Vandana followed by the students expressing their views on  the importance of Hindi language and threw light on the topic of why Hindi Divas is celebrated. Students also recited poems on Hindi language.  The show concluded with students presenting a short drama on the importance of Hindi language.

 Madam Sangeeta Sharma (Physics Department) and Madam Mandeep Arora (Sanskrit Department) played the role of judges for the poster making competition.  The results of the competition were as follows

 College Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur gave away prizes to the winners and while wishing the students a happy Hindi Divas, praised the efforts of Head of Hindi Department  Dr. Kamini Sahir and teacher Dr. Sonia Mala. She further said that we should keep organizing such events so that the students  acquire knowledge of their mother tongue and also inculcate interest in it. The event concluded with Pledge taken by the teachers and students to respect and preserve Hindi Language.

 A Date With Happiness

Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana in collaboration with Suman Hospital, Ludhiana organised various activities to mark the Suicide Prevention Awareness Day.

KCW Counselling Cell organized “A Date With Happiness”- interactive sessions for students with mental health issues who had registered earlier through a Google form. 76 individuals registered for this programme which was aimed at providing individual counselling sessions to cater to their specific counselling requirements. All of them went back feeling satisfied and equipped enough to manage their everyday hassles and mental health issues with ease.

Earlier Dept of Psychology arranged an ice breaking activity which involved various issues of self-harm, negative thoughts, low mood, adjustment problems, stress due to studies, personal growth etc. Ms. Palak Dada Soni, Counsellor from Suman Hospital conducted this session with the participants and gave practical tips for effectiveness in everyday functioning and to help them with negative thoughts and mental health issues. The students were very satisfied with this session as they got empowered with certain tips and tools for effective management of their daily hassles and stress.

The Department of Psychology also released an informative pamphlet “How to help a loved one in crisis”, listing steps one could take to offer help as the first line of contact with the affected person. It also listed various correct questions to ask and statements to refrain from while informing a list of warning signs to be aware of. This pamphlet was later distributed throughout the faculty of different departments to help their students in need of guidance.

The Principal appreciated the Department of Psychology and KCW Counselling Cell for working towards instilling hope in individuals amidst the tough challenges of life.

Celebrated International Day of Charity

The students of Department of Office Management of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana celebrated International Day of Charity on the theme “Every Child is Special”. Five volunteers along with Madam Sheetal Soi visited “ The School for Deaf Children” situated at Hambran Road, Tagore Nagar-A, Ludhiana. The students celebrated International Day of Charity by cutting cake, distributing notebooks, pencils, cookies, chocolates and other food and stationary items. The sign language of these special children and innocent faces touched every heart present over there. Students had a wonderful experience with them.

The Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur appreciated the students for the noble gesture.

   International Year of Millets marked at Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana

 To mark the “International Year of Millets 2023”an Extension lecture on “ Introduction to the World of Millets” was organised by Department of Botany , Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana. The lecture was delivered by Dr.  Ruchika Bhardwaj, Millet Breeder, P.A.U Ludhiana. She enlightened the undergraduate students regarding the various types of millets along with their ecological conditions suitable for growth especially in Punjab.  The Students  came to know about super foods, nutritional status and their  health benefits.

Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur applauded the efforts of Department of Botany to organise such an informative lecture.

Star cast of Punjabi Film ‘Buhe-Baariyan’ visits Khalsa College for Women

The notable actors Neeru Bajwa, Jaswinder Brar, Rupinder Rupi, Rubina Bajwa, Gurpreet Bhangu were among the star caste. The team was extended a warm welcome by the Director Dr. Mukti Gill and college Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur, staff and students.

Neeru Bajwa addressed the students and shared the story line of her movie which is a gripping narrative about women supported by strong performances by the leading ladies. She further said that the movie has  a deep message  for the society. She also performed on the famous dance numbers from the film.
