“TALENT HUNT” conducted by Fine Arts Department

Talent Hunt is an event, which gives a platform to students to represent their talents in any field. It not only helps the participating students to show their abilities but also motivates other students, to come up front and show their hidden potential.

The Talent Hunt was organized on 16 August ,2023 in which 69 Students participated enthusiastically in this event and displayed their abilities magnificently in different categories.All students actively participated in the event and have shown their enthusiasm and dedication in their efforts.In each category 1st , 2nd & 3rd prizes were given to the prize winners, in the form of certificates , 9 categories were decided for the competition i.e Landscape,Still Life ,Poster Making , Clay Modelling ,

Photography,Cartooning,Collage Making, Best out of waste and Rangoli . All the winners were felicitated with certificates .Principal Dr.(Mrs.) Iqbal Kaur heartily congratulated them for showcasing their talents.

Celebration of Independence Day

Department of Political Science, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana celebrated Independence Day under this year theme ‘Nation First, Always First’ by organising Declamation Contest on 17th August 2023.Dr. Pooja Chatley, Head Department of Business Management was invited to judge the contest. 13 students expressed their views and 80 students attended the same. They  highlighted significance of the journey towards freedom and progress. In the end, the result of the competition was declared and Simrat Kaur (B.A III), Gurkirat Kaur (B.A I), Deepansha (B.A.II) and Kanu Rai(B.A.II) grabbed first, second and third positions respectively. All the students were awarded with certificates by the Chief Guest. Dr. Iqbal Kaur (officiating Principal) appreciated the efforts of all the students.

ORGAN DONATION AWARENESS DRIVE

Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines Ludhiana, in collaboration with GLODAS-Gift of Life Organ Donation Awareness Society organized an ‘Organ Donation Awareness Drive- Breaking Mental Barriers For The Gift Of Life’ on August 12, 2023 in Ghumar Mandi. The event was focused on removing stigma attached with organ donation and making people aware about how and which organs can be donated.The volunteers from Counselling Cell, Department of Sociology along with NSS, NCC and Youth Red Cross participated enthusiastically in this event.

The event was flagged off in the morning by Mr SB Singh from the NGO GLODAS and the college Principal and Director along with senior teachers. The GLODAS representative sensitized the students regarding organ donation and motivated them to further inspire others around them to gift this gift of life to others by making a pledge to donate organs. The rally was spearheaded by the counselling cell volunteers who made and distributed informative brochures about Organ Donation.

The community gave a positive response by actively engaging with the students and trying to understand the concept of organ donation.

Earlier, a poster making and slogan writing competition was organized by the Department of Sociology and NSS.

Further, all volunteers were given the task to spread the message of this awareness campaign amidst the community by making these brochures as their profile pictures, streaks, insta-page stories and status.

The dignitaries appreciated the efforts of the students and the faculty in spreading awareness about such an important but neglected issue of organ donation amongst the community.

HUNAR DEGA PEHCHAAN-A SINGING STAR, MUSICIAN KALAKAAR & ANCHORING USTAD CONTEST HELD AT KCW

The Departments of Music Vocal,Instrumental and Psychology, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organised Hunar Dega Pehchaan- A Singing Star,Musician Kalakaar & Anchoring Ustad Contest on 11-08-2023 to showcase the hidden talent of students.

The highlight of the program was the enthusiastic participation of the students from all the Streams. Around 30 budding artists from the college enthralled the audience by showcasing their talent in the art of anchoring along with singing and playing various instruments.The students sang beautiful melodies like Teri Diwani,Allah hoo da awaza,Tere jaisa yaar kahan,Ki banu duniya da,Long lachi,Mere maula karam ho karam,Arzian and a lot more.

They also showcased their talent on different instruments like Guitar and Sitar. The young anchors hosted the event as they participated in the Anchoring Ustaad contest.

Dr. Honey Walia,Department of English and Ms. Vibha,Department of History were the judges for the event.

The results were as follows: Singing Star Contest- Deepali Shukla of BA 1,Megha Rani of BA1 and Bhumika Gupta of BA1 took away 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize respectively; Instrument playing Contest – Simranjit Kaur of BA3,Bhawna Devi of  BA 3 and Damya Jethi of BA1 bagged 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize respectively; and Anchoring Contest – Bhaveeka of BA1,Kim Sachdeva of BBA2 won 1st and 2nd prize respectively whereas 3rd prize was bagged by Ishika and Ojasvi,both of BA3.  The college Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur and the Director Dr. Mukti Gill congratulated the winners. They appreciated the efforts of the students and the faculty members of the departments,emphasizing the significance of finding and nurturing the talent of the students.

Student Visit to GADVASU’s College of Animal Biotechnology Ignites Interest in Biotechnological Advancements

[Ludhiana, 9 th August, 2023] – 16 students of B.Sc. (honours) Biotechnology (II nd year) along
with two faculty members of Department of Biotechnology, from Khalsa College for
Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, embarked on a captivating journey into the realm of cutting-
edge biotechnology during their visit to the College of Animal Biotechnology at Guru Angad
Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU). Ludhiana. The visit, which
took place on 8 th August, 2023, provided an insightful opportunity for the students to explore
diverse areas of animal biotechnology, including stem cell research, viral vaccine production,
virus isolation, animal genomics and bioinformatics.
Dr Satparkash Singh, Dr. Ratan K. Choudhary, Dr. C.S. Mukhopadhyay, Dr Manu M. and
Dr. Simrinder Sodhi under the able guidance of the Dean, CoABT, Dr. Y.P.S. Malik, held
informative interactions with the students regarding their respective areas of research. During
interactive sessions, the students gained insights into the practical applications of
biotechnology in the fields of animal health improvement and livestock enhancement.
The visit left an indelible impression on the students, igniting profound interest in the
potential of research areas in the field of animal biotechnology.

KCW Biotech Outshines In PU Results

Students of B.Sc. (Hons.)  Biotechnology, Khalsa College for Women, Civil lines, Ludhiana have once again proved their mettle in Panjab University IInd Semester examinations held in May, 2023. Surpreet Kaur bagged the 6th position in the University by obtaining 414 marks out of 500 and Navneet Kaur secured 9th position in university by obtaining 407 marks. Overall result of the college is 100% with all the students passing with first division. The College Management and The Principal appreciated the tireless efforts of the department and motivated them for future endeavors.

Khalsa College for Women holds Annual Convocation

Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines Ludhiana, organized Annual Convocation for the session 2021-22, wherein 994 students were awarded with degrees of Post Graduation, Post graduate diplomas and graduate diplomas. Eminent Personality Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, presided over the function and delivered the convocation address. The guest was accorded a warm welcome by the esteemed member of Managing Committee, Dr. Kawalpreet Kaur, Director Dr. Mukti Gill, Officiating  Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur, entire staff and the students of college at his arrival in the college premises. The function commenced with an invocation to God.

The Annual Report was presented through multimedia  highlighting the different activities and achievements of the Institute during the academic year. The persistent hard work of the students reaped rich dividends where in students secured various 85 Top Ten positions in the university exams grabbing 44 first, 21 and 20 second and third positions  

The Physical Education Department managed to clinch 34 Gold Medals, 13 Silver Medals, and 42 Bronze Medals. Our college clinched II Runners up trophy at the P.U Zonal Youth Festival organised at Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana. Students Bagged 45 prizes in all, 14 first, 14 second & 17 third prizes.

At the Inter-Zonal & Heritage festival organised at Swami Permanand Mahavidyalya, Mukerian from 10-11-2022  to 13-11-2022, the college students bagged 8 prizes in all (3 first, 1 second & 4 third prizes).

42 students were conferred with the Roll of Honor for their achieving excellence in various activities. This year 14 students have qualified for Academic Roll of Honor, 14 for Social and Cultural Activities, 12 for Sports and 2 for NCC. In her address, Madam Principal  expressed the belief that the institution is committed to nurture the students not only academically but aims at their holistic growth.  She thanked   the managing committee for their untiring efforts to ensure the smooth functioning of the institution.

The guest for the occasion ignited the young minds with illuminating words. Addressing the degree holders the chief guest congratulated the students on their achieving academic excellence. In his speech he urged the students to work with courage and compassion to cope with the dynamically changing world. He further said that in this era of information you need to learn, unlearn and relearn to reinvent yourself to match with ever-changing paradigms of work culture. The event met its conclusion with the beats of National Anthem.

KCW Students Shine in M.A. (Political Science), Panjab University Exam

first and fifth position respectively in MA (Political Science) 1 st semester Panjab

University Exams held in December,2022. Principal Dr. Mukti Gill

congratulated them and the teachers.

KCW students shine at State level Quiz Contest

 Students of Geography Department of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, participated in state level geographical quiz contest held at S.C.V, Government College SAS Nagar and bagged the overall trophy. They were also  awarded with gold medals.

Principal Dr. Iqbal kaur and Director Dr. Mukti  Gill appreciated the efforts of the students and also blessed them for next level i.e, National level geographical quiz contest. She   also congratulated the team mentor and head of Geography Department Ms. Kulwinder Kaur.

SONG OF THE SOUL-AN INTER-CLASS SUFI SONG COMPETITION AT KCW

The Department of Music Vocal, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organised Song of the Soul-an Inter-Class Sufi Song Competition to showcase the hidden talent of students under the superb guidance of  Dr. Reema Sharma (H.O.D- Music Vocal) on 28-03-2023. The highlight of the program was the enthusiastic participation of the students from all the Streams. About 15 budding artists of the college enthralled the audience with their mesmerizing performances in Sufi Music. The students sang beautiful Sufi melodies like Arzian, Bulleya, Shukar Dateya,Sanson ki mala pe,Allah ke bande and a lot more.The competition was hard enough to judge. Mrs. Gurinder Kaur, the former HOD Music Vocal, KCW and Mrs. Kumud Talwar, the former Asst. Prof. Music Vocal, KCW performed the duty of judgement. Chahat Jakhu of BAI bagged the First Prize, Ravneet Kaur from BCOM III was awarded with the Second Prize ,Ashima Sharma of BCOM I took away the Third Prize and Rahat Parveen of BA I and Chahat Sharma of  BBA I bagged the Ist and IInd Consolation Prizes respectively. Director KCW Dr. Mukti Gill and College  Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur  congratulated the winners. They appreciated the efforts done by the students and the faculty members of  the department and emphasized the role of nurturing the talent of students.
