Old Students Association Health Check-up Camp held at KCW 25-03-2023

Old Students Association, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized Health Check-Up camp in collaboration with Rotary Club of Ludhiana Midtown and Inner Wheel Club of Ludhiana Midtown under the able guidance of Rtn. Rajan Kapur, R’anne Anju Kapur(Project Directors),Rtn. Inderbir Nanda(President of Rotary Club) and Ms. Jyoti Aggerwal (President of Inner Wheel Club) on 25thMarch, 2023. Dr. Sandeep Puri (Principal, DMC&H) was the chief guest. The camp was inaugurated by Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill (Director, Khalsa Diwan). Doctors from various fields including Gynaecology, Dentistry, Diet Consultancy, Psychiatry, Medicine and Dermatology provided free consultancy to approximate 500 students and staff (teaching and non-teaching). Club members and stakeholders from sister institutions also availed the benefits of the camp. Tests like blood sugar, haemoglobin, blood group, lung functioning etc. were also conducted free of cost.

Dr.Suman Puri (Prof. & Head of Unit & IVF Specialist DMCH), Dr. Neena Chawla and Dr. Bhawna Sachdeva offered their services related to Gynaecological problems. Dr. R.K Goyal also joined them for conducting lung functioning tests. Dental check up was offered by Dr.Rajanbir Thind and Dr. Gurinder Kaur Thind. Dr.Vikas Loomba, Dr. Gaurav Sachdeva, Dr. A.S. Chawla , Dr. Rinchu Loomba, and Dr. Sandeep Goyal, Dr. Samta Goyal, Dr. Ravinder Tah, Dr. Jyoti Tah provided general checkup. Skin care guidance was provided by Dr. Bimal Kanish. ENT specialist, Dr. Vineet Gulati, also joined the team. Not only this, special doctors team from SPS Hospital also arrived and provided free physical examination and discussed various issues of health. Camp was successfully organized, and officiating Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Iqbal Kaur thanked the entire team for their efforts.

KCW Girls shines in All India Inter University Softball Championship 2022

KCW Ludhiana Seven girls got Gold medal in All India Inter University Softball Championship held at P.U Chandigarh from 17/03/2023 to 21/03/2023 and Kolhapur Claimed Second Position, Calicut University and Delhi University finished Joint Third. In the last league matches, P.U defeated Calicut University with 1-0 Scores.

KCW GIRLS SHINE IN B.COM 3RD SEMESTER EXAMINATION

The students of Khalsa College for women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana have achieved outstanding results in B. Com 2nd year 3rd Semester results of which were declared by Punjab University on March 21st , 2023. Garima bagged 8th position in university and 1st in college by securing 86.83% marks. Diksha Verma & Drishti stood second and third in campus securing 85.5% & 83.33% marks respectively. Most of the students who appeared for the exam attained First Division. Topper of the college attributed her success to her hard work and punctuality. Besides this she remarked, that efforts of her faculty members coupled with the blessings and support of her parents and the college Principal have played an important role in her success. Er. Pritpal Singh Grewal, President, managing committee Congratulated PG department of commerce for their sincere efforts in generating excellent results. They applauded the students for maintaining the tradition of the college in clinching Top University Positions and also wished them luck to continue to scale  greater heights in life.

One day National Seminar held at KCW

The Botany Department under the aegis of IQAC of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organised College Development Council, Panjab University Chandigarh, sponsored One Day National seminar “Urban Green Spaces, Climate Change and Environment Sustainability: A Critical Acclaim” in the college auditorium. Officiating Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur extended a warm welcome to the guests and delegates of the day. Mrs. Ajit Kang, Vice-President and Mrs. Ravinder Grewal, member from the managing committee of KCW also graced the event.

 Faculty, Scholars and researchers from various Universities and Institutes of India participated in the Seminar. Dr. R. K Kohli, Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Punjab, Mohali, Department , was the chief guest of the event and presented the inaugural address. In his address he reflected upon the concept urban green spaces while deliberating upon the need to save water and soil to make planet earth a better place to live. He  also raised concerns on the rising graph of population and proposed that effective management, creating urban green spaces, and wild life protection can be some of the solutions to the sustainable environment.

Dr. Daizy Batish, Professor, Department of Botany, Panjab University, Chandigarh presented the keynote address. She deliberated upon degraded ecosystems and highlighted that these are potentially threatening as they are a breeding ground for infectious diseases. She raised concerns over the diminishing forest cover and increasing urbanisation. She also discussed the importance of botanical gardens.

The first session was taken over by the eminent academicians from various parts of the country. Dr. Manish Kapoor, Professor and Head, Department of Botany, Punjabi University, Patiala and Co-ordinate centre for restoration of ecosystem of Punjab discussed the importance of tree health and apprise the audience about the health problems of trees which generally go unchecked. He raised concerns over the issue and urged the audience to identify such trees in their vicinities and take measures to save them consequently saving the green cover.

 In the technical session Dr. Parminder Singh, Professor of Floriculture, PAU Ludhiana , discussed landscaping a source to connect with the natural world and helps in building a sustainable environment. He shared varied aspects of urban cover like green belts and vertical gardens at length.

   Dr. Jagriti Gupta, Assistant Professor, Nauni University, Solan, disseminate knowledge on the basics of landscaping such as different plants used for landscaping. She also discussed types and styles of gardens to enhance the beauty while adding life to the urban setup.

In his valedictory speech Dr. Manav Indra Singh Gill, Dean of Horticulture and Forestry, PAU, appreciated the efforts of the organisers who walked an extra mile to bring insights into the important issue of urban green spaces and environment sustainability and emphasised that green spaces are required for mental, physical and social well being as greenery enhances the quality of life.

Dr. Kamaljit Kaur, Head of Botany Department delivered  vote of thanks to all the dignitaries and faculty from various colleges. The event was culminated with the beats of national anthem.

A DATE WITH HAPPINESS 20th MARCH, 2023

The Department of Psychology and Counselling Cell of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana in collaboration with Global Child Wellness Centre organized “A Date With Happiness”-Interactive Session on Inculcating happiness through a positive Mental Health to mark the International Day of Happiness on March 20, 2023.

Mrs. Manmeet Grewal, a renowned social activist and a psychologist was the Guest of Honour while Ms. Ridhima Jain, a counsellor in Global Child Wellness Centre, Ludhiana was the resource person for the first session.

The event started with an ice breaking activity which involved a presentation on basic introduction to counselling followed by an explanation and practical implications of the same. The students were made aware of what to expect from the counselling sessions. Ms. Aayushi Jain, a Clinical Psychologist, an RCI Licensed Mental Health Professional conducted mini counselling sessions with the participants on various issues of personal growth, negative thoughts, low mood,adjustment problems etc. She gave practical tips based on the counselling for effectiveness in everyday functioning. The students were very satisfied with these sessions as they got empowered with certain tips and tools for effective management of their daily hassles and stress.

64 individuals registered for this programme and participants were provided with counselling sessions. All of them went back feeling happy and empowered to deal and adjust effectively with their everyday struggles.

The Principal appreciated the Counselling Cell and Department of Psychology for working towards dispelling the darkness and creating a happy space for all. 

KCW GIRLS SHINE N B.COM 5th and M.COM 1st SEMESTER EXAMINATIONS

The students of Khalsa College for women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana have achieved outstanding results in B. Com 3rd  year 5th Semester results of which were declared by Punjab University on March 17th , 2023. Four students of the college placed their names in Ten University Positions. Anjali Jindal bagged 1st position by securing 90.83% marks. Taniya Jain and Kanika Kalra tied for sixth place with 88.33% each, and Karishma Guglani took eighth place with 88% marks. All the students who appeared for the exam attained First Division. The students of M. Com 1st Year 1st Semester also showcase excellence by securing top university positions Jasdeep Kaur and Gurleen Kaur bagged 1st position by securing 87% marks. Jasmine Kaur Kalra 85%, Diksha Puri 84.57%, Anjali Bansal 83.86% and G. Priya 83.57% marks and secured fourth, fifth, ninth and tenth position in university respectively. The prestigious managing Committee Congratulated PG department of commerce for their sincere efforts in generating excellent results. They applauded the students for maintaining the tradition of the college in clinching Top University Positions and also wished them luck to continue to scale greater heights in life.

KCW students achieved position in M.A.(FINE ARTS) 3rd  Semester

The students of Khalsa College for women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana have achieved outstanding results in M.A. 2nd  year 3rd  Semester results of which were declared by Punjab University.  Eight students of the college placed their names in Ten University Positions. Shivani has bagged 1st  University Position by scoring 386/400 marks (96.5%), Aditi Mishra has been placed 3rd position in University with 379/400 marks (94.75%), Shilpa and Shivani kapoor got 4th Position in University with 378/400 marks (94.5%), Amrit Kaur  bagged 7th Position in University with 373/400  marks (93.25%), Sukhampreet Kaur and Manminder Kaur bagged 8th position in the university by scoring 371/400  marks (92.75%) . Jaspreet Kaur bagged 9th position in the university by scoring 369/400  marks (92.25%).  All other students who had appeared in the examination have secured more than 85% marks. The prestigious managing Committee Congratulated Madam Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill and the staff of the Fine Arts  Deptt.  for their sincere efforts in generating excellent results. They applauded the students for maintaining the tradition of the college in clinching Top University Positions and also wished them luck to continue to scale greater heights in life.

KOMERCIO FETE, 2023 Held at KCW

The Department of Commerce and Computer Science, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized an inter college competition, KOMERCIO FETE, 2023. As many as 21 colleges across the state participated in the event while a number of students showcased their talent in the various events under the Commerce and Computer Science Department. Students participated in technical events such as Bug Hunter, Logo Designing, Website Designing, Tech Tangle, Code-A-Thon, PixelArtz and  in Commerce Face Painting, Food Crafting, Business Talkathon, Contrakeenos were the highlights of the show.

8Alka Chhabra, Chairperson of Nirdosh school for mentally challenged children, Ludhiana along with S.S Bhogal, member on board of Technical Education , Panjab University Chandigarh Ludhiana were the chief guests of the event.

While addressing  Dr. Bhogal urged the students to nurture dreams and work hard to realize those dreams as life is melodious with dreams in  heart.

Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana bagged the overall trophy while Government College for Girls, Ludhiana clinched first runner up trophy and Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town, Ludhiana, secured Second runner up trophy. The winners were accorded with awards and certificates.

The college Principal congratulated the Heads of Department of Commerce Dr. Priyaka Khanna and Computer Science Dr. Parminder Kaur on the success of the event. 

MARTYRDOM OF SHAHEED BHAGAT SINGH OBSERVED AT KCW 

The Postgraduate Department of History and Punjabi of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana , observed the martyrdom of Shaheed Bhagat Singh by organizing poetry and recitation competition on Sardar Bhagat Singh. Every year ,March 23 is observed as ‘Shaheedi Diwas’ in the memory of Bhagat Singh. Students presented wonderful poems dedicated to him .

 Haramanpreet Kaur of class B.A II stood first, while Bipneet Kaur of class B.A I came second and third prize was won by Manpreet Kaur of M.A I (History).

An inspirational documentary on the life of  the Great son of India, Sardar Bhagat Singh was also presented before the students of the college.

Principal Dr.(Mrs.) Mukti Gill applauded the efforts of the History and Punjabi  Department and gave away the trophies and certificates to the winners and participants. She also drew the attention of the students to value and uphold the unity and integrity of the country as our freedom is precious for which several brave sons of India laid their lives.The Head of the Punjabi Department , Dr. Iqbal Kaur and the Head of History Department Prof. Ramandeep Kaur also encouraged the students to take part in such events as this would be a true tribute to our freedom fighters, they said.
