Poster Making Competition

 Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized a Poster Making Competition on 1 March 2023 on the theme of G-20 goals. Fifteen students of Fine Arts Department participated in this competition. The results will be announced on the same day.

KCW NCC Department Organized Seminar on ‘ ZERO DISCRIMINATION DAY’

‘Zero Discrimination Day’ is a global movement that takes place on March 1 every year. Headed by UNAIDS, the day is a call to action for eradicating discrimination in all forms and promoting social inclusion and tolerance. To promote  the idea of ‘Zero Discrimination’, NCC Department of Khalsa College for women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized a seminar on 1st  March 2023 in collaboration with 3PB Girls BN NCC Ludhiana under the stewardship of Capt (Dr. Paramjeet Kaur), Associate NCC Officer of the college. NCC staff (Hawaldaar Jaswinder Singh and Hawaldaar Sandeep Chaudhary) Girl Cadet Instructors, College Principal Dr.(Mrs) Mukti Gill, Vice Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur and around 130 NCC cadets became part of this seminar. The aim of this event was to sensitize the cadets about their right to live with dignity, regardless of appearance, race, geography or belief.

 NCC cadets of college SUO Bhumi, UO Heena Jhakhar, UO Prachi and Cadet Kim Sachdeva presented their ideas on ‘Zero Discrimination’ with the help of a PowerPoint presentation. They explained about meaning of discrimination, types of Discrimination, various facts & figures, laws made by government to penalise discrimination and measures to eradicate this problem from root. Cadets also explained about Women Empowerment as a measure to eradicate Gender Discrimination prevalent in Indian society. The presentation came to a conclusion with the discussion on various measures which can be taken by NCC cadets for reducing discrimination.

After the presentation a Rank Ceremony was organised, this was a symbol of zero discrimination and women empowerment practiced in NCC. In the ceremony final year cadets were given ranks by college Principal and NCC staff. The deserving cadets were given awards to appreciate and celebrate their achievements and their contribution not just for being active NCC cadets but also for creating productive youth for the society. The event concluded with NCC song and vote of thanks.

College Principal Dr.(Mrs) Mukti Gill appreciated the efforts put in by NCC cadets and the department. She added that such activities instil the feeling of responsibility and patriotism in the young minds.

Extension Lecture  “Knock The Door : Exploring Career Opportunities in Banking & Finance”

The Department Of Economics of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, organized an Extension Lecture, “Knock The Door : Exploring Career Opportunities in Banking & Finance” on 28th Feb 2023. The objective behind the initiative was to inform the students about preparations and guidance regarding  various career options in Banking & Finance sector. Around 100 students attended this  informative lecture.

Mr. Shambhu Tiwari, Director, IBT Ludhiana was the speaker of the day. In the elaborative session pertaining to career guidance, he apprised the students about the  job opportunities available in the field of Banking & Finance sectors. He deliberated on the skills required  to explore and utilize the potential to get an edge in the chosen fields. He highlighted the various requirements of each sector and guided  the students about  the ways and strategies to practice to achieve success in the various competitive examinations such as Bank PO, clerks,  SSC, LIC, RBI, NABARD, IBPS,  and Civil Services. He also dwelled upon the online educational sources and their effective use and urged the students to work on goal setting and time management to be successful in life. He further shared tips to face interviews on the virtual platform in the changing scenario. In the concluding session the queries of the students were taken and satisfactorily answered by the speaker.

The Principal Dr.(Mrs) Mukti Gill applauded the efforts of the Department of Economics and further encouraged the students to attend such programs to stay updated and informed to achieve success in career.

KCW Celebrated National Science Day 2023

National Science Day 2023 was celebrated as SciAmalgum 2023 at Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana with “Global Science for Global Wellbeing” as focal theme of the programme. The occasion featured a number of activities put on by several science disciplines. To provide young brains with the chance to better comprehend scientific principles, the Physics department held a Science Model Exhibition on cutting-edge ideas on contemporary pursuits. The students wonderfully depicted the beauty of the subject through different scientific experiments and phenomena. They made working models on Lie detectors, earth quake alarms, Automatic street lights, hydraulic breaks and projects based on renewable sources like wind and solar energy from low cost eco-friendly products and waste materials.  The main aim of the exhibition was to explore and encourage scientific talent and creative thinking among students and to develop an understanding about the role of science and technology to meet the needs of the society. Department of medical streams organised Rangoli competition under the theme ‘One Earth, One Planet, One Family’. Ms. Vandana Malik and Ms. Ashu  were the esteemed judges for the event.  Rangolis were made by 13 teams, out of which Tanisha and Aradhna grabbed the first position, Rajdeep and Harman scored the second position, and Tanya and Shreya held third position.  Consolation position was grabbed by Harman and Mariya. In the competition ‘Cooking without fire’ with a theme ‘Food for Healthy Lifestyle’  9 teams of B.Sc. medical, non medical and biotech participated. The honourable judges were Dr. Prabhleen and Dr. Amrinder Caur. First position was bagged by  Tarunpreet Kaur and Shruti Sachdeva, Ridhi Chopra and Surpreet Kaur scored the second position and Prachi and Gunika grabbed third position. Department of Chemistry choreographed “Science through Dance”. In which the students highlighted the importance of science in day to day life and its priceless role in enhancing the quality of human life. Mathematics department also organised a poster presentation competition. The students brought their book lessons to life through practical experience and demonstrated the same to the audience as well. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill also appreciated the students and motivated them to participate in more such events.

Poster Presentation Competition

PG Department of Mathematics of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, organised Poster presentation competition. Students of Under graduate & Post graduate classes enthusiastically prepared and presented posters on various topics like  Polytonic solids, 3-6-9 Secret Code of Universe, Transformations, Algebra & its Applications, Cryptography, Why Math?, Game theory etc. Students were made aware of many invisible applications of Mathematics in our daily life in order to nurture certain qualities i.e.creativity, abstract or spatial thinking and effective communication skills. Tenushikka gupta and Lakhwinder Kaur of M.Sc Mathematics I bagged first position, Taniya and Bhavya of M.Sc Mathematics I got second and Rattandeep Kaur and Jasmeet Kaur of M.Sc Mathematics I got third and also Shifaly and Ravnoor of M.Sc Mathematics I  got consolation prize . Principal Dr. Mrs. Mukti Gill congratulated the winners and  appreciated the efforts  of teachers and students .

KCW scripts History with a Hat-trick in Softball Championship

Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana scripted history by winning all the matches of league with a score 10-0, 10-0 and 10-0 against PGGCG, Sec-11, Chandigarh. The softball team of the college made the college proud by clinching the first position in Panjab University Inter College Softball Women Championship held at Panjab University Chandigarh from 24.02.2023 to 26.02.2023.

Cerebral Palsy Awareness and Management Camp

24 February 2023

The Departments of Psychology and Sociology of  Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines,  Ludhiana contributed to the Cerebral Palsy Awareness and Management Camp organized by NGO Ashirwad NICPA  on 24th February 2023.

Sixteen volunteer students participated in the event where the diagnosis of children vulnerable to cerebral palsy was done and an insight into the effective ways to manage and include these specially-abled children was provided.

The volunteers took an active part in interacting with these children and young adults, with effective experiential learning on what cerebral palsy is and ways of effectively dealing with the same. A guest lecture was also delivered by Dr. R.S. Sodhi, Director, (Ashirwad), Dr. Vibhu J. Narad (MD, PG Dip.), Dr. Sachin Mall, (MPt). The chief guest of the event, Dr. Hatinder Kaur, Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana acknowledged the psychologically oriented inputs and interactions of Khalsa College students with the specially-abled children and thus appreciated them for their effort towards community welfare.

These volunteers came back and shared this information with their peers in the College. Informative brochures about cerebral palsy awareness and management were also circulated for inculcating the value of inclusion in the students.

The principal, KCW, appreciated the efforts of Departments of Psychology and Sociology in creating awareness among the students about Cerebral Palsy and empowering them with skills required for effective  awareness and management of children diagnosed with cerebral palsy.

INTER-CLASS PPT COMPETITION

An Inter-Class PPT Competition was organised by the Dept. of Music Vocal on 24-02-2023 under the able guidance of Dr. Reema Sharma. About 16 students  from BA1,2 & 3 participated in the competition and expressed their views on Topics like Biographies of Pt. V.N. Bhatkhande,Pt. V.N. Patwardhan,Ustd. Vilayat Hussain Khan, Role of Akashvani & Doordarshan Towards Popularisation of Indian Classical Music,Role of Electronic Instruments,Taalas and Ragas and many more. The competition was hard enough to judge. Dr. Kamini Sahir (HOD-Hindi) and Dr. Aditi Satija (HOD-Psychology) performed the duty of judgement.  The students took part with great enthusiasm. Principal appreciated the efforts of students and teachers and advised to maintain a balance between academic and co-curricular activities and also congratulated the winners.

INTER-CLASS MANDALA ART PAINTING COMPETITION

Khalsa College For Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized an Inter-College Painting
Competition on 21 Feb, 2023 on the theme “MANDALA ART” . Thirty eight participants from
UG and PG classes of Khalsa College participated in this competition. The purpose of the
competition was to bring out the different creative ideas in relation to Mandalas. The result
was declared on the same day.

NGO Event Organization and Management –An Experiential Learning Activity

16th – 21st Feb, 2023

The Departments  of Psychology and Sociology of  Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines,  Ludhiana collaborated with NGO Ashirwad to organize an Experiential Learning  Activity from 16th February, 2023 to 21st February, 2023.

Ten volunteer students were involved in the preparation, organization and management of the Inauguration of Skill Training Unit – an event for the NGO – Ashirwad  NICPA.

The volunteers took an active part in interacting with the specially-abled children and young adults, from teaching them the basic alphabets, hand painting and cooking to the workings of a computer. They mediated the sensory-motor learning activities and games to help the children improve their own functioning as individuals.

The students also helped in the preparation tasks and organization of the Inauguration event. They learned about the lifestyle of the specially-abled children and inside workings of an NGO. Their psychology oriented inputs in interactions with the children were acknowledged and appreciated by the chief-guest.

These volunteers came back and discussed their experiences with their peers. The Volunteers felt motivated to further participate in such activities of social-work oriented organizations and contribute positively to the Society.
