Department of Political Science, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana celebrated Republic Day on 24th January 2023. A documentary was shown to students on the life of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. He was an Indian jurist, economist, social reformer, and political leader who headed the committee drafting the constitution of India from the constituent Assembly debates, and served as Law and Justice Minister in the first cabinet of Jawaharlal Nehru. Through the documentary, students came to know about Ambedkar’s life. The objective behind celebrating the day was to aware students of the uniqueness of the Indian constitution. Despite this, the students come to know how determination and education can change the fortune of anyone. The students also learn that one should not give up on oneself even if the odds are against one.

Rally on ‘Say No to Plastic’ By NCC Cadets of Khalsa College for Women
Increasing plastic waste in the world environment is adversely affecting mother earth and humans. Due to lack of awareness, it is frequently either dumped carelessly on land, roads or in rivers. In order to reduce the plastic consumption and acquainting the young minds regarding their responsibility towards plastic pollution, a rally was organized by the NCC department of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana in collaboration with 3 Pb. Girls Bn. NCC on January 24, 2023. The campaign was undertaken under the stewardship of Col. Aman Yadav (Commanding Officer, 3 Punjab Girls Bn. NCC Ludhiana), College Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill and Associate NCC Officer Capt. (Dr.) Paramjeet Kaur. The aim of Rally was to join hands for Prime Minister’s Shri Narendra Modi’s National Cleanliness Campaign ‘Swatch Bharat Mission’ and to sensitize the young cadets against the harms to natural environment posed by increasing plastic usage. Girl Cadet Instructors and members of PI staff from the NCC battalion graced the occasion. Around 125 college cadets participated in the rally, in which they made the nearby residents aware regarding the ill effects of single use plastic.
The rally was jointly flagged off at Khalsa College for Women, Rani Jhansi road by college the principal. Young cadets urged the residents to stop using plastic by raising different slogans against the ill effects of plastic and the need for environment protection. They carried placards explaining the need of banning plastic and creating safe environment. Cadets sensitized the people about challenges posed by increasing volume of plastic waste in the world environment by saying in one voice “We want to live in a pollution free environment”.
College Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill appreciated the efforts put in by NCC department. She applauded cadets for their sincere efforts and motivated them to reduce plastic consumption in their normal lives. She added that there is a need to change people’s attitudes and behaviours towards plastic to ensure a safe and healthy future for the planet. She also briefed the cadets about creative disposal of plastic waste in the form of recycling and utilizing in building and construction sectors and making use of environment friendly materials.
Workshop conducted on “Knowing Your Personality”
Department of Psychology, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized a Workshop: ‘Knowing Your Personality’ aimed to identify one’s underlying personality traits and further equip them with the knowledge, ways and means to utilize these qualities in their daily, academic and future professional lives.
The workshop enabled the 30 participants to assess themselves by administering a Personality Traits Test followed by educating them on ways to work on pathways to achieve their goals by striving to understand self, find out ways of self-regulation and eventually moving towards good mental health. Tips to improve qualities essential for becoming a fully functioning individual with healthy social interactions were also imparted. Informative videos were displayed for the students to help in understanding the concept of personality and its proper application in routine life. The students were given tokens of acknowledgement of their learning in the form of badges.
The workshop received a positive response; the students were successful in identifying their personality traits followed by the proper analysis and ways to utilize this information in a productive manner.
The Principal appreciated the efforts of the Department of Psychology, in equipping the students with necessary skills to manage their personality in a healthy manner and contribute positively towards the society.
NATIONAL FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM ON QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH
Post Graduate Department of commerce, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized -a week National Level Faculty Development Program in collaboration with HUMANBEHAVTICS, Lucknow on “Quantitative and Qualitative Data Analysis” for research scholars and academicians from 16th January to 21st January 2023. Resource persons for the program were Dr. Padmaja Priyadarshini, Corporate Trainer from Chennai, and Dr. Shailesh Kaushal, Associate Professor, Department of Business Administration, University of Lucknow. They deliberated on the concepts of Qualitative Research, Various Parametric and non-parametric tests like One Sample T-test, paired T-test, ANOVA, Wilcoxon test, Mann-Whitney U Test, Chi-square, Multiple regression Analysis, Linear Discriminant Analysis, Logistic Regression Analysis, Exploratory Factor Analysis, Cluster Analysis, Moderation and Mediation and Covariance Based Structural Equation Modelling. The FDP aimed to provide the participants with an opportunity to acquire knowledge for scientific research, to integrate qualitative and quantitative approaches in research, and to understand new, advanced techniques for precise, rationale and scientific approaches, dealing with appropriate tools for statistical conclusion and interpretation of data which enhance the abilities to carry out independent research, write successful research projects. The contents of FDP were beneficial to research scholars and academicians to enrich the developments in theoretical tools and empirical methods. The program was well received and appreciated by 152 research scholars and academicians who had participated in this seven days FDP from universities of different states like Punjab, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, etc.
The finale of 7 days NSS Camp at KCW
The NSS faculty at Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized a seven day camp for their volunteers from 14 Jan to 20 Jan with the theme, Swachh Bharat and Fit India. By seeking the blessings of God with the Shabad, Deh Shiva Ver Mohe Hai – the camp was inaugurated with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm. The Principal of the Institution, Dr. Mukti Gill addressed the students and encouraged them to actively participate and contribute to the camp. The first day was packed with activities like Ice breaking sessions, constitution of committees, cleanliness drive in college and laughter exercises.
All the days began with a Yoga session conducted by Ms. Sunita Bhagat, alumni of KCW Civil Lines, Ludhiana to improve the mental and physical well being of volunteers. The highlight of the second day was the best out of waste competition where students submitted a lot of innovative entries like doormat stitched out of waste sarees and eco pits made out of waste plastic bottles. To steer students towards mindfulness, a session was also conducted by the instructors from The Art of Living Foundation who guided students on how to find their inner peace in the chaos of this world.
With the aim to connect students with people who are working to build Swachh Bharat we dream of, the third day marked an interactive session with Mam Chandrajyoti , MF, Zone D, Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana. It was followed by a poster making competition based on theme of the camp and the room was bustling with colour and optimism to achieve the much-needed awareness and change. Fourth day was the most thrilling in the entire week as it pertained a visit to Sayan Kala – a small village on the periphery of Ludhiana. Camp members rallied at multiple locations and even visited the local primary school to educate and encourage people to follow a sustainable lifestyle. They even presented the school students and locals with gifts like registers, stationery and hand stitched bags. They visited Gurudwara Flahi Saheb on their way back.
The fifth day focused on empowering students to live a fitter life with a session on self defence by Mr. Narinder, a professor of KCW, and a session on personal hygiene by Dr. Seema Kaushal who is a renowned gynaecologist with 20 years of experience. On the sixth day, students resumed with the cleanliness drives with the first being in the campus and the second at Rose Garden. The day also included a plantation drive and a session on Sustainable Fashion by Eco entrepreneur and activist, Sahanu Jain, who introduced students to many new concepts like Slow Fashion, Vegan Fashion and eco friendly sanitary products.
A cultural event was planned for last day of the camp where students performed many art forms like singing, dancing, poetry recitation and winners from all the competitions were presented with their awards. Throughout the camp, college authorities arranged lunch for the camp members to ensure that they remain energised. The days ended with the National Anthem.
DAY 6 | NSS CAMP AT KCW
The sixth day of NSS Camp commenced with lot of enthusiasm with Ms. Sunita Bhagat, alumni of KCW Civil Lines, Ludhiana taking the first session where camp members performed different spiritual and physical Yoga Asanas. It was followed by a plantation drive in the college campus. They planted many tiny saplings which will blossom in the upcoming spring. With the aim of educating and encouraging students to adopt a sustainable lifestyle, the next session focused on sustainable fashion by Sahanu Jain, an eco entrepreneur & founder of eco-mela. She introduced the students to concepts like slow fashion, vegan fashion and eco friendly sanitary products. To motivate everyone to contribute to the Swachh Bharat Campaign, the camp members carried out a cleanliness drive at Rose Garden. The day concluded with the National Anthem.
NSS Special Seven Day Camp – Day 5
The fifth day of NSS Camp commenced with a lot of enthusiasm with Ms. Sunita Bhagat, alumni of KCW Civil Lines, Ludhiana taking the first session where camp members performed different spiritual and physical Yogasanas. With aim of developing confidence and awareness in the volunteers, the next session focused on self-defense where Mr. Narinder, taught volunteers different defense techniques to protect themselves.
After lunch, the camp resumed for the evening session which was facilitated by Dr. Seema Kaushal who is a renowned gynecologist with 20 years of experience in Gynae and OBS presently giving her service at the urban community health center Ludhiana. She discussed the significance of personal hygiene & health and how it can be improved. The day ended with different sports activities and the national anthem.
“Road Safety Week” observed at KCW, Ludhiana
Given increasing number of road accidents, students of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana have observed Road Safety Week on 17.01.2023 in association with the Traffic police of Ludhiana. The members of the traffic club created awareness about safe driving amongst students. Students in large numbers took out a rally with the slogan “Drive Safe, Stay Smart”. The campaigners carried out placards highlighting the importance of road safety and the fatal risks caused by the lack of awareness. Mr. Vishwinder Sharma (Traffic charge) also accompanied the rally. Madam Principal Dr. Mukti Gill gave a vote of thanks to the traffic police department and encouraged students to follow the traffic rules sincerely and spread awareness amongst others.
KCW NCC Wing Organized Webinar on 75th Indian Army Day
Indian Army is one of the most powerful militaries of the world, competing with superpowers like US, Russia and China. It works with the motto of ‘Service before self’ and its mission is to ensure national security and maintain peace within its borders. To salute the valiant soldiers who sacrificed their lives while protecting the country and its citizens, NCC department of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organised an online webinar on the occasion of 75th Indian Army Day as on January 15, 2023 in collaboration with 3Pb Girls Bn NCC Ludhiana. Dr. Meenu Singla (Assistant Professor in the department of Commerce, Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management, Ludhiana) graced the virtual meet and delivered a lecture on the theme ‘Developing Leaders for Indian Army’. NCC Staff, Girl Cadet Instructor and around 100 NCC Cadets became part of this webinar.
Dr. Meenu Singla initiated her talk with the beautiful quote “Two stars on one’s shoulders are better than millions in the sky” and explained the reason why Indian army day is celebrated. She very beautifully narrated the history behind Army Day and also discussed the values of Indian army such as loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, personal courage etc. She explained the need of developing leaders for Indian army by quoting various examples of army Officers. She inspired NCC cadets by narrating stories about the bravery and courage which Indian army has always shown.
In the concluding remarks she suggested cadets to be responsible citizens of nation as they are the tourch barers for youth of the country. She inspired young cadets to be the leaders in whichever field they enter. Overall the Session was quite interactive and informative.
College Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill appreciated the efforts put in by NCC department. She added that such activities instil the feeling of patriotism in the young minds and connect them with their rich heritage.

Day 3 of the NSS camp at Khalsa College began with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm with the first session focusing on the well-being of volunteers. Ms. Sunita Bhagat, alumnus of this very college, delved into different pranyas and Mudras. With the aim to connect students with people who are working to build Swachh Bharat we dream of, there was an interactive session with Mam Chandrajyoti , MF, Zone D, Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana. With her experience of heading local chapters key projects in the Swachh Bharat Campaign, she gave a very insightful session on Waste & plastic management.. After a lunch break, the camp resumed for the final activity of the day – A poster making competition. All volunteers rendered their interpretation of the theme of the camp, and the room was bustling with color and optimism to achieve the much needed awareness and change. The day concluded with the national anthem.
