KCW Biotech Outshines In PU Results

Students of B.Sc. (Hons) Biotechnology, Khalsa College for Women, Civil lines, Ludhiana have proved their mettle in Panjab University B.Sc. (Hons.) Bio-Technology Examination held in Dec. 2021. Komal of Ist Semester bagged eighth position by securing 453/500, Kashish Mittal of 3rd semester bagged seventh position by securing 467/500 and Gurinder Kaur Grewal of 5th semester obtained fifth position by securing 479/500. Overall result of the college in B.Sc. (Hons.) Biotechnology is 100% with all the students passing in first division. College Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill congratulated students and faculty members for their performance and excellence shown in examinations and motivated further them for  future endeavours .

‘Kho-Kho Tournament’ under Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ held at KCW

The ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ Club of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, in collaboration with the Department of Physical Education organized a Kho-Kho Tournament under the title, ‘SportsKey to Happiness’ to celebrate the spirit of sports that binds Punjab and Andhra Pradesh in many ways. The tournament took place in the college playgrounds on May  21, 2022. Around 48 students from sports participation and showcased their mettle. Since the paired state for Punjab under EBSB is Andhra Pradesh; students were apprised about the various aspects of Andhra and Punjab’s sports connect since kho-kho and Kabbadi are played and liked by both the states in the similar fashion.Four teams under the titles P.V Sindhu club, Karnam Malleswari Club, Ravi Kalpna Club and Saina Nehwal Club were formed. Six matches were played with league.

The tournament turned out to be a specimen of true sportsmanship and courage as the teams played to defeat their opponents. Karnam Malleswari club won the tournament securing first position while PV Sindhu Club and Saina Nehwal Club bagged second and third positions respectively.

The objective of the initiative was to identify a common thread that connects the people of both the states to promote and nurture a true spirit in existing together as one nation. The Principal Dr. Mukti Gill appreciated the efforts of the club members and urged the students to learn to connect, respect and appreciate one another.

YOGA PROGRAM OF INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA BEGINS AT KCW

The NSS Unit and the Yoga Club under the Physical Education Department of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized yoga demonstration on 14th May 2022.This program is a part of “Countdown of International Day of Yoga” as per the instructions of Ministry of AYUSH communicated through the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Nearly 100 volunteers of NSS and Yoga Club of the College participated in making the event successful.The volunteers practiced different yoga postures under the guidance of the Yoga Trainer Mr. Ranjeet Rana. All the staff members of Physical Education Department and NSS programme officers were present on this occasion. Principal Dr.(Mrs.) Mukti Gill encouraged the volunteers to practice yoga in routine as it offers physical and mental health benefits for people of all ages.

The‘YogAurSewaParivar’Awarded Scholarships to the Merit Holders at KCW

The Yog Aur Swa Parivar, Ludhiana graced the corridors of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines Ludhiana with a cause to empower the bright students of the institute.

In their pursuit to acknowledge and lend support to the young women the members of the organisation awarded scholarships to the merit holders. Among the university toppers Beant Kaur, Sugandha Jain and Harpreet Kaur were given Rs 3100 each while Ritika Jain, Gurpreet Malhotra, Jasmine Jawanda and Nehal were given Rs. 2100 each.

Mr. GR Vig along with the esteemed members of the organisation were extended a warm welcome at their arrival. The Principal Dr. Mukti Gill congratulated the students and appreciated the selfless and inspirational work being carried out by the organisation for the different sections of the society.

Rotaract Club Ludhiana awarded scholarships to Merit holders at KCW

The Rotaract Club Ludhiana, North Zone in yet another humanitarian pursuit awarded scholarships to the bright students of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana. R.L Narang, president Rotary Club along with esteemed members of the club graced the corridors of KCW and awarded scholarships to 21 students giving wings to their dreams to soar high in life.   Each student was benefited with an amount of Rs.3000.

The members also delivered boxes of sanitary napkins to college Rotaract Club to be distributed among the needy.

The Principal Dr. Mukti Gill congratulated the students and urged them to work hard to reach for success. She also extended gratitude to the rotary club for their gesture of concern and compassion.

58th & 59th Prize Distribution Function held at KCW

In the endeavour to acknowledge the continuing saga of glorious achievements of its students the 58th   and 59th Annual prize distribution function of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines Ludhiana was organized on May 05, 2022 in the college Auditorium. Mr. Manmohan Parkash, Advisor at Asian Development Bank, Philippines, graced the occasion as chief guest. The Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill, and S. Gursimran Singh Grewal, Treasurer, Khalsa Deewan along with Sardarni Sarbrinder kaur Grewal, Madam Kushal Dhillon, Manager KCW, S. Saminder Singh Grewal, member Managing committee, accorded a warm welcome to the Guest. The programme got off to a magnificent start with the college Shabad recitation. The principal presented the Annual Report highlighting the different activities and achievements of the Institute during the last academic year. She highlighted that the persistent hard work of the students reaped rich dividends in the year 2019-20 and 2020-21, where in students secured various 82 & 79 Top Ten positions in the university exams respectively.

She highlighted the achievements of Physical Education Department and stated that it managed to clinch 37 Gold Medals, 31 Silver Medals, and 60 Bronze Medals. The college clinched the overall trophy at Zonal as well as Inter Zonal Youth Festival. Students bagged 49 prizes in all (20 first, 16 second, & 13 third prizes) at the P.U Zonal Youth Festival held at Khalsa College for Women from 17th November, 2021 to 21st November, 2021. At the Inter-Zonal Youth & Heritage Festival organised at A.S. College Khanna, College students procured 20 prizes in all (5 first, 6 second & 10 third prizes).

50 students of the college got placement in different companies. She thanked   the managing committee for their untiring efforts who ensure the smooth functioning of the institution. The principal congratulated the winners and motivated the students to continue their hard work and wished them good luck to scale greater heights in life.

The chief guest along with the members of the Managing Committee and distinguished guests gave away the prizes to the meritorious students for their par excellence performance in various fields. 12 students for the year (20-21) and 87 for (21-22) were awarded with college colour. 8 students for 20-21 and 78 for 21-22 were accorded with merit certificates for their excellent performance in academic and co-curricular activities. 10 students were given Roll of Honor for the year 20-21 and 20 for the year 21-22. Dr. Shaveta Chugh, from Commerce Dept. and Simranjit Kaur, M.A I History were given the best library user awards. Members from ‘Yog Aur Sewa Parivar’ Ludhiana also graced the event and awarded scholarships to the merit holders. 

While lauding the achievements of the students the chief guest congratulated the Principal, the Management and the staff for holding the ever rising graph of achievements. The grand spectacle came to a close with the beats of National Anthem.

VISIT TO DISTRICT BUREAU OF EMPLOYMENT AND ENTERPRISE

The Department of Economics of Khalsa College for Women, civil lines, Ludhiana organized a field visit for the students of Economics and Career Coaching Cell. The students visited District Bureau of Employment and Enterprise on 2nd May,2022. During their visit the students got the first hand information about various career and employment opportunities in the govt. as well as the private sector. Dr.Nidhi Singhi (Career Councellor, DBEE), Mr. Navdeep (deputy CEO) , and Mr. Ghansham (Placement Officer) addressed the students and guided the students about the strategy which is formulated to enable eligible jobseekers to be gainfully placed, besides facilitating enterprising youth towards self employment venture. They apprised the students about the functioning of the bureau that would provide regular interface between the job seekers and the employers through digital platforms and conventional channels including understanding the requirement of the employers and aspirations of the job seekers. In an interactive session they stressed upon the need for setting up of goals and how their selection of subject can help to achieve their goals. They emphasized that learning is important but the success rate depends upon the retention of the knowledge.

Students participated very enthusiastically as they cleared their doubts and learnt about the innovative ways of preparing for various competitive exams. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill applauded the efforts of the Department Of Economics and stressed upon the need to keep pace with the ever evolving job scenario  and prepare the students for various upcoming challenges .

EDUCATIONAL TRIP TO RADIO STATION

The English Department of Khalsa College for Women,Civil Lines, Ludhiana, organized an educational field trip to AIR FM Gold 100.1 channel Ludhiana for the students of Radio Journalism on May 4, 2022. The students had an interactive session with the studio Incharge, Mr. Navdeep Singh and the technical staff. He apprised the students of the various aspects of Radio Journalism. The students also got an opportunity to attend a segment of live programme ‘GagarChSagar’ under the title Home sweet Home with RJ Preeti. They also learnt about the process of writing for radio as well as the handling and operation of technical equipment’s used in Radio Broadcast.

Bhavya Goyal, a student of B.A II Functional English also recorded for the radio program titled’ Youth Forum’ where she acted as the host and talked about seven movements of freedom struggle. This program was a segment under the celebrations “AzadiKaAmritMahotsav”.

The Principal Dr.Mukti Gill congratulated the students and urged them to exploit such platforms for their confidence building and also encouraged the staff to organize more of such educational trips for the students.

PAPER READING COMPETITION

An Inter-Class Paper Reading Competition under the programme “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat”was organised by the Dept. of Music Instrumental on 02-05-2022. The main theme of the competition was “The Music of Punjab & Andhra Pradesh”. About 10 students participated in the competition and expressed their views on topics related to the main theme. The competition was hard enough to judge. Ms.Sumedha Wadhwa (Former HOD-Music Instrumental) and Ms. Reema Sharma (HOD-Music Vocal) performed the duty of judgement.  The students took part with great enthusiasm. Principal,Dr. Mukti Gill appreciated the efforts of students and teachers and advised to maintain a balance between academic and co-curricular activities and also congratulated the winners.

‘Mile Sur Mera Tumhara’ contest at KCW

The Department of  Music Vocal,Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organised a Singing Contest- ‘Mile Sur Mera Tumhara’ under the programme ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ on April 29,2022.It was an Inter-Class Singing Contest including the Folk Songs of Andhra Pradesh and Punjab. The highlight of the program was the enthusiastic participation of the students from the department of Music Vocal.The budding artists of the college enthralled the audience with their mesmerizing performances in Telugu and Punjabi Songs. Principal, Dr. Mukti Gill was the guest of honour.Ms. Karanpreet Kaur from Guru Nanak Foundation Public School,Mohali and Ms. Amarpreet Kaur,a Professional Punjabi Singer,also the Alumni of the college acted as judges. Dr. Reema Sharma (HOD Music Vocal) extended a warm welcome to the guests and participants. About 20 budding artists participated in the program. Principal,Dr.Mukti Gill appreciated the efforts of  the teachers and students of the Music Vocal Department and emphasized the role of nurturing the talent of students.
