The Student Council of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized an event
titled “Drama: Feel the Magic” on February 12 in the college auditorium. Renowned Writer
and Poet Dr. Surjit Patar was the guest of Honor. While addressing the students, he
highlighted the importance of ‘language’ for a nation and the contribution of language in the
development of personality. The students were also informed about the contribution of
different genres of literature in the development of language. He further shared information
with the students about the creation process of his poetic play ‘Bhasha Vahinda Darya’ based
on ‘Kavitavan’.
Under the direction of Kanwal Dhillon, solo play: Bhasha Vehanda Dariya was presented by
Dr. Sompal Heera. The play while talking about the mother tongue ‘Panjabi’, talked about
the concerns of Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiyat very seriously. This is the first play in
Punjabi language which is based on ‘language’. This play, packed with many theater trick
kept the audience captivated for 50 minutes. The play successfully presented to the audience
the situations happening with the mother tongue ‘Punjabi’ after the partition of the country.
The show concluded with an interactive session wherein students were answered for the
queries pertaining to the nuances of drama. College Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur appreciated the
efforts of the event coordinator Dr. Khushdeep Kaur from Commerce Department for
organising such an event.
