KCW Launches Innovative Workshop on Recycling Dry Waste into Animal Sculptures

Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana proudly launched a 5-day workshop titled “Transforming Waste into Wildlife Art” on 1st October, 2024 to celebrate wildlife week-2024. This initiative aims to educate students on how to creatively recycle dry waste into animal sculptures, promoting both artistic expression and environmental awareness. The workshop is being conducted by the Department of Zoology in collaboration with Switch for Change, NGO and is sponsored by Ludhiana Zoo. This partnership underscores the importance of community engagement in conservation efforts.
The Principal, Dr Kamaljit Grewal, appreciated this commendable initiative and highlighted its role in fostering sustainability and creativity among students. The Head of the Zoology Department, Dr. Monita Dhiman, emphasized the significance of hands-on learning experiences that not only cultivate artistic skills but also instil a sense of responsibility towards environmental conservation.
Participants have shown great enthusiasm in learning various recycling techniques, with daily sessions focused on creating art from wooden scraps, plastic bottles, old tyres, and bottle caps. The Founder of Switch for Change, Mr Gaurav, has been acknowledged for their support in making this event a reality. Additionally, Mr Narinder Singh, the In-Charge of Ludhiana Zoo, has been commended for their collaboration in raising awareness about wildlife protection through this innovative workshop. The completed artworks from the workshop will be donated to Ludhiana Zoo, enhancing the zoo’s exhibits and contributing to the promotion of wildlife conservation in the community.
