Mental Health Awareness Month

A community mental health drive was organised by the Counselling Cell of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines , Ludhiana to mark the World Mental Health Month. In a unique social outreach effort, psychology students from around ten city schools along with their teachers participated. A seminar titled ”Dealing with Mental Health Issues among  Youth” was organised to make the students aware of mental health issues and to empower them to help deal with daily life challenges and stressors. The resource person for the seminar, Mrs. Sunita Sharma, MD, PELTC, a certified trainer by NIESBUD and EX-registrar, STEP-GNDEC elaborated on various Mental Health problems and gave practical tips on inculcating positive Mental Health practices in our daily lives. The aim was to teach the students about positive mental health and make them ambassadors of change so that they could help themselves and others around them to deal proactively with mental health issues prevalent in the contemporary youth.

Further, the Department of Psychology organized a Poster Making Competition on the theme, Mental Health.

53 students from ten schools and three colleges from the city participated by making informative posters describing various aspects of mental health. The results were as follows:

Dr. Mukti Gill, Director Institutional Development and Dr. Iqbal Kaur, Principal Khalsa College for Women gave away the prizes. They appreciated the enthusiasm of the participants to gain knowledge for the improvement of self as well as the society. The efforts of the Department of Psychology and Counselling Cell were also applauded, for being actively engaged in taking the Mental Health Issues to the masses for the benefit of the community.
