The Department of Psychology and KCW Counselling Cell, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines Ludhiana organized a Chart Making Competition and Mental Health Drive to mark World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10. The drive focused on spreading awareness regarding suicide prevention on the theme “Creating Hope through Action”.
The drive was flagged off in the morning assembly with a dramatic presentation on the significance of choosing life amidst turbulent times. In another activity, a Chart making Competition was held in which 21 teams participated and the winners were awarded certificates. The Judge for the event was Ms. Palak Jain Bhumbla, Clinical Psychologist and Fortis Certified Expressive Art & Movement Therapist. These charts provided tips and necessary information required to deal with depression and negative feelings and spread awareness regarding suicide prevention The students were equipped with tips to deal with suicidal tendencies and how to manage themselves and others around them.
The volunteers of the counseling cell played an active role in spreading awareness regarding healthy coping measures through brochures and posters. The aim was to normalize asking for help and to create hope amidst the chaos of general life. Later, the volunteers made a symbolic gesture towards providing help to distressed individuals by standing in a giant “S” holding informative placards symbolizing awareness regarding Suicide Prevention.
Further, all volunteers were given the task to spread this message of hope amidst the community by talking personally to five people each, from their family and friends. They also distributed informative brochures about early warning signs and how to extend timely help.
The Principal, Dr. Mukti Gill appreciated the descriptive charts and brochure made by the students to spread this message for the good of the whole community.
